For those who take 5 or less minutes to milk a goat...

I believe I could milk daisy this fast...she is very easy to milk..but I am assuming to get it done this fast I will have to really push a lot of milk out fast. Whenever I go faster than normal, she kind of squirms..i'm not sure if the loud sound of the milk going into the bucket is the reason she gets a little skittish..or because i am making her uncomfortable...any advice?

Why are you in such a hurry? Are you "yanking" the teat? Why not slow down a little? A brushing of her coat, a little udder massage, whisper a few kind words to her, praising her nice udder, easy to milk teats, and "viola" the pail is full and both of you have enjoyed the experience. I love milking time.

I am not particularly in a hurry. I brush and play with both the goats every night. I do not yank on the teat at all. When I open my fingers her teats fill up with milk and I squeeze the milk out...I just squeeze it out pretty slowly right now and it seems like whenever I squeeze a little more firm to make the milk come out faster it REALLY comes out faster and I think the sound of it hitting the bucket scares her..but I want to make sure I am not making her uncomfortable. I love spending time with the goats, but I will be the first the admit that I don't really like the milking aspect of it...the sooner that gets done the more time there is for petting and treats :-)

I do not yank the teat. I sing and talk to my girls on the stand...it does only take five minutes or less. They are asy milkers.

How fast you can milk depends a lot on teat structure. If they are long enough for you to handle gracefully and have good orifices, then the milking goes as fast as you can make your hands work.

I'm blessed with two does who have teats just longer than the width of my hand, and they are not overly meaty, and they have good (not tightly closed) orifices. I bought one doe (and quickly sold her) who had meaty, cone shaped teats. VERY thick near the udder. My hands and wrists screamed in pain trying to milk her!

My MiniMancha has small teats, but I use a modified Udderly EZ Milker on her. Otherwise, I'd be using two fingers to milk, and it *would* take half an hour.

The pre-milking routine does help the doe let down her milk. Music, brushing, washing teats, etc. It's reassuring to them.

All my goat needs to be reassured is feed in the bucket. She eats fast and I milk fast. But she has a very nice udder, nice long, but not overly fat teats that fill and milk out easily. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to milk her out. There's a reason she's the one I kept.

My Saanan milks out pretty quick, probably 5 mins or less. She also eats very fast so you best be done by the time the grain runs out! She is the only goat I have had that actually talks while she is eating, almost like umm, umm, umm, its soooo good
