Single buckling out of my old doe

My eleven year old LaMancha gave us a healthy HUGE buckling this afternoon. I was *really* hoping for a doeling, as this doe has produced daughters that have good udders, well shaped teats, and are easy, productive milkers. This is a disappointment, and it may mean that Princess doesn't get to retire. She's going to get some extreme pampering, and we'll try for doelings again next season if she's healthy.

He's a Saanen cross, and he is so growthy that he has horn buds already!
Still wet in this picture.

Well........idn't he a cutie! I know how disappointing it is to get so many boys. This year we had 4 boys and 2 girls. Last year it was 6 girls and 2 boys.

I feel your pain. I've been hoping for the last few years for another doe kid off my old goat. She breeds but doesn't kid. I've hoped for doe kids off the one doe I have off her, and all I get are bucks. Nice bucks, mind you, but I want does!!

He is very cute!
My 10 yr old Nubian doe did not give me a doeling this year either. In the 5 years that I have had her, she has given me boer crosses, mini nubians, and nubian/mancha crosses. (the minis keep getting to her first!) Since she is such an excellent milk producer, I really really want a doeling to carry on her genetics, even though she is unregistered. I hope I can keep her healthy to freshen this fall.

Seems like it was pretty much a buck year all around. My count was five does and eight bucks.

shhhh.... don't say buck year TOO LOUD ... I still have one more doe left to kid (due on monday) it's my older herd queen who didn't take last year... I ***SO*** want another doeling out of her.. I have one older gal who kidded a month ago.. she is now retired, but went out on a high note.. a spotted doeling we named Evie.. now if Jenna will just give me a girl (doesn't even HAVE to be spotted LOL).. I'll be a happy goat gal! (honestly I'm halfway afraid we've used up our doeling quota for the year. Girls are well in the lead this year)

Seconded! Except in place of "one more doe" say "only doe that looks to kid for us this year." She's due June 1.

I was so hoping you had a doeling from her to but thank goodness for a healthy baby & momma!
We had one of those huge single bucklings born here this year & we named him Moose. He already knows his name & of course I fell in love with him so I banded him & he's staying!

The best way to get doelings is have someone wanting a buck out of the doe. Baby's 2 for 2 on that one.

He's very cute Alice. Glad everything went well. We're hoping for bucklings to keep out of a couple older does in June/July. So far this year we're at four doelings and one buckling, so we'll see what happens.

Maybe Princess is trying to tell you that you should keep Hoss and make ALL of your kids her grandbabies next year?
I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted, but he IS a beauty! I'm glad for you they're both healthy.

Oh, heck yeah! You can even scew 90% of a bunny litter that way!. It will even ensure that the desired sex is the wrong color and a runt to boot! Similarly, if you want to be certain of getting a rooster, just have my DD point into a batch of chicks and say "That one's my favorite. We're keeping that one, right?" Sometimes I swear, that kid IS the Sex Change Fairy!
