Staph or not?

One of my does has little bumps all over her udder. None of them look like whiteheads, though, which I thought Staph made like little zits? They are not irritated looking, just bumps everywhere. Started out with one, then a few, now they're pretty concentrated on her foreudder and a few on her rear udder. Is this just early in a staph infection?

I use Fiasco Farm's udder wash - bleach, dawn dish soap. I mainly just washed the lower udder and teats. The barn was just cleaned after weeks of mud and damp.

I do have some chlorhexidine SOLUTION (not teat dip) Should I add that instead of bleach?

I've been putting off doing anything because I don't know what I'm dealing with. I suppose I should treat like a staph issue. How does one treat a staph problem?

Yup, I'd use the Chlorhexidine, and I'd vaccinate with Lysigin.

I used Nolvasan wound cleanser, not diluted, on Tootsie, when she had staph on her udder. It's a thick blue gel and I just cleaned it well with some that was diluted and then coated with a layer undiluted twice a day. Did this when we had sore mouth too, worked great

I'm ordering Lysigin for all the girls before breeding this year.

Should I use chlorhexidine straight or dilute?

Lysigin - I had thought about using it before. Should I do ALL the goats?

Nolvasan is chlorhex.... I hate trying to spell that word. The chlor stuff comes in all sorts of dilutions. You'll have to wing it!

I vaccinate all the does with Lysigin.

The 8oz bottle of the Nolvasan wound cleanser I have can be applied straight.... I've even put it on me before.

Dunno about the others though....like Alice said, several different concentrations of the stuff.

The stuff I have is 2%. It said 2tbs per gallon as a dilute rate... I wanted it strong for staph, so I put 3 tbs in a qt. I know I could have used it straight but I don't want to blow through it either.

I'd like to hear how strong nolvasan is, percentage wise, to see if I should just use it straight.

Thanks!

My Goat that will work, that is what Alice is talking about. The Lysigin will help also if you will use it in your vaccination program. I give it pre-kidding to all.

The Nolvasan wound wash I have says:

"Contains 2% (w/v) Chlorhexidine Acetate in a stable detergent base."

For wound cleaning it says to apply directly, undiluted.

You did great. The Nolvasan solution usually is soapy. Where Chlorehexidine is not. Dillute it with water to the color blue of swimming pool color for flushing. The soapy nolvasan scrub is good to wash it off and then I would swipe it with a sponge with alcohol on it to help it dry up.

Ps.. It does sound like Staph...even without the white heads. I would still put a black light on it to rule out ring worm.....

They may start to come to a head. If they do I like to pop them and cleanse with chlorhexidine water. I don't let any pop with out me taking care of it so they don't spread elsewhere.

I mix nolvasan teat dip according to this recipe on Jeffers
Teat Dip - 1 qt Nolvasan and 6 oz of glycerin and add clean water to make 1 gal.
Works well. Seems to work better once I added some Tea Tree Oil.
