Question Can Buck & Wether Be Roomies?

So, we have decided on a LaMacha herd sire. He is the son of an EXCELLENT milker, registered and the 1/2 brother to my two LaMacha doelings. He is a very handsome light reddish brown and super sweet (like all the 'Machas I have known). We will be bringing him home tomorrow and he will run with the herd for about a month before we separate him from the does. With that said, can our wether "room" with him or is the buck going to pick fights with him when they are older?

Of course they can! A lot of people keep a wether as a companion to their buck if they only have the one.

Are you going to breed this buck to his half-sisters?

Yes, breeding to 1/2 sisters will have no effect on the offspring and will strengthen my milking lines. They have the same daddy, but different mommas and the mommas are not related.

They will play a LOT of dominance games. You may find some of them offensive.

I think it depends on the goats' personalities and the age of of the goats. We have a 3 year old wether and recently put a 2 week old Nubian buckling in the same pature area. The wether did try to push him around to establish dominence, but now they are buddies. Since we have started giving the buckiling some hay, we do have seperate feeding spots because the big guy will try to butt him away.
