Do they have scurs or....

Do they have scurs or is it normal to get small bumps/buds on thier heads well after the scabs have fallen off?

Background--We have 3 does that were disbudded at ages 6 to 8 days old.

They were disbudded using a X50 iron, by a experienced breeder, The iron was hot and applied for approx. 6 to 8 seconds each side.

After the scabs fell off at about 1 month old, there was not any sign of a bud ...

The does are now 3 months old and and I can feel small bomps/buds about the size of...say...1/2 the size of an eraser on a No. 2 pencil.

What do you guys think?....should I disbud again?

Paul...

Flossie has little bumps that never turned into scurs...but Frankies did turn into scurs. So, long story short, I don't know! !

Post pictures. Can't say without pictures, but I am inclined to think this is no big deal. A lot of goats will develop small amounts of horn tissue after being disbudded, but much of the time this never grows beyond being a small cap and doesn't cause a problem.

I shaved around their buds or scurs or whatever they are... the little bumps are pretty small, and seem to move slightly with the skin on their forheads...

I am trying to post photos....but cant figure out how to post them...
I'll keep trying

upload to photoBucket or Shutter fly and copy and paste the photo from there to a post here. You right click on the photo and then click on copy image location...start a post here and click on the little yellow square in the tool bar of the post. A box coems up that says http: highlighted in blue. Back space to remove that and then do control V to paste the link (or right click and click on paste)

Some of mine have mini scurs that don't amout to anything. They are a little rough and sometimes fall off. They are some horn follicles in the skin that didn't get completely destroyed. I've read that if they are ripped off with pliers when they appear that they will eventually stop growing but I don't have the heart to do that.

They are really hard to see

I shaved around their buds or scurs or whatever they are... the little bumps are pretty small, and seem to move slightly with the skin on their foreheads...

The picture on the buchskin ... if you look hard ... her's is the color of cartilage

The picture on the brown doe... if you look hard ... her's is the color of a raisen

They are about 1/4 inch in diameter and probably 1/8 of a inch tall

Simply gorgeous. I don't *think* there are scurs, and if there are, they are very small.
