Angry My empty milk pail

This morning we had some chaos.

I usually bring Tootsie & Sabrina into a gated off area of the pen, put Brina on the stand & let Tootsie eat her grain while I milk Sabrina (Tootsie is a slow eater so if I do this she actually gets enough to eat by the time milking is finished).

After Sabrina is done, I lock Tootsie's head gate, put Sabrina out, and milk Tootsie...

This morning, I milked a lil over 1/2 gallon from 'Brina, locked Tootsie in and was letting Sabrina off the stand...

Everyone goes crazy, on high alert thanks to the most recent dumped dog lurking outside the pen.....poor Tootsie was frantic, and I was trying to get my Chinese Crested in the pen so she wouldn't get attacked (she usually sits by the gate while I milk)...

Sabrina looked alert, briefly, then wandered towards the barn and I lost track of her. Get my dog in, chase the stray off with the rake, and calm Tootsie down..

Only then do I hear the loud, smacking and slurping!

Sabrina, completly took advantage of the situation.....while the other silly goats were fussing over a dog who could not get in the pen, she was in pure, blissful heaven, slurping down the ENTIRE bucket of milk!

Brat!!!!

I say "Sabrina! What did you do??! Shame on you!!" (yes, I talk to the goats, lol)

She pulls her head out of the bucket, milk all over her muzzle and just cocks her head to the side and gives me the most smug look I've ever seen on a goat! I so wish I could have got a picture!!

On the bright side though....... I did get to keep all of Tootsie's milk AND she milked 3.7lbs this morning (she's a mini alpine)

LOL! When I got my girl Dixie and her two babies, I was worried the babes were not getting enough to eat (new mother-itis) so I bought milk replacer and mixed up a bottle. the babes would have none of it. But Miss Dixie grabbed the bottle off the ledge where I had put it. She ran around the stall with a Guiness bottle sticking out of her mouth! I wish I'd had a camera. Later when I put some goat milk in a pan for the babes, again they wouldn't touch it. But Dixie slurped it up quick! I wonder if she was a bottle baby, I know her own mother died shortly after Dixie was born. End of story of course, the babes grew lil and strong (they're minis) and had enough to eat all along : )

That is a wonderful story, LoneStrChic23. Your too Trailrider. No wonder goats are such a joy to raise. They do have minds of their own and keep us on our toes just like naughty children around 4 yrs of age who are pushing every limit imaginable.

I have often considered wearing a camera around my neck for just such times; but I have little doubt one of my beauties would find a way to get her head stuck in the strap while I was hugging on her.
