disbudding .. again?

I took the horns off our little doe (born Feb 17th); now I see one horn growing back.

Is it too late to disbud again? If now, how would you do it on a doe who is now 2-1/2 months old?

I think it is OK... Not too sure though. Would also like a second opinion.

Yes....Sam was born January 31st and since I brought him home has been redone 3x's.

Once by my vet with a 1" tip that really got the area I could not do with my X30. Once by me, and once by my miniature girls breeder

Scab on one side finally came off and it's FLAT! So I'm hopeful that one is done for good....still watching the other side and will redo it if I need to. After the 1st reburn, I said I wouldn't do it anymore, but that was before I saw some goats with the nastiest, sharpest scurs growing over and towards their face! From 2 weeks old, until now, he's had SIX scurs form....hence the multiple reburns. I bought him already done and didn't know what to look for so I thought he was okay until I shaved his head and got a good look at it.

I burned my kids born here at 5 days old, and after this scur mess, I will make sure no kid born here goes past a week old without being done.

This doe is a Nubian and the new growth looks so thick. Is there danger of damaging her brain if I go deep (burn long enough) to get it at this thickness? (I never have an easy time "emotionally" when disbudding.)

The 1st time Sam had to be redone he had a scur about 1/4" wide and almost 1/2" tall...it was thick and looked like a cube. Vet burned, ice packed his head...waited a few minutes and burned again. He was fine....though the vet didn't hold the iron on for long periods at one time.

Vikki on DGI said to nip it off with sharp, straight hoof clippers as close as you could and then burn.... I'm a chicken and couldn't cut it off, so I had the vet do it.

Wanted to add, the vet used a 1" tip that was also almost double the thickness of my Rhineheart X30 so was able to basically cover the entire scur..... if I didn't have that option, I think I would suck it up, cut as much as possible off, the quickly burn afterwards..

If we fail with disbudding (and we frequently do), we take them to our vet for a further disbudding under general anesthesia. That way he isn't dealing with a squirming kid and is able to do a much better job than we do. In fact we have a buckling we need to make an appointment for in the next week or so.

Cannot afford a vet and the vets in this area know nothing about goats; so I sure wouldn't trust them to disbud a baby.

We have the "clippers"; so will take a look today and see about "cutting" it off. I'm a bit concerned as the horn clippers have a curved edge that takes the cut "in & under". I know I can carthrize it with the heating iron afterward; however, having a blade go that deep into a 2-1/2 month old baby is real scary for me.
