Non-Goat People Really Don't Know

I went up to the shed to check on my girls (and one boy) like I do every night, and let me tell you, the affection that runs through my herd is absolutely tangible. The second I get there, my bottle babies are asking to be scratched and "tucked in" so to say. My FF can't find her doeling, who somehow got lost with the sheep herd and can't see well enough to find momma. So I carried her back to the shed and she's pawing at me and nuzzling me as to say "thank you for bringing me back". I bend over to check hay and my usually aloof doe and her son are leaning up against me so that they can get their share of love. As I continue kneeling on the ground, I feel something gently laying against my head and it's Cream, the queen of the herd. She softly nuzzles my head until I scratch her cheeks and stroke her beard while she closes her eyes in escstasy. Then she softly nuzzles my face and gives me several gentle licks as to just say "I love you". I scratch her some more, lay my cheek against her soft nose and tell her that I love her too.

I tell you, people who don't have goats, just don't have a clue what wonderful animals they can be (until they eat your landscaping of course - LOL).

Who needs stress meds when you have goats. They are prozac in the pasture.

I'm in complete agreeance with you..................Until they get into the garden or poop on the porch! My goats and sheep are for the most part free range so it's not uncommon to see them up near the house doing some weedeating for me!

I never knew that goats could be so lovable either. I had always heard about how mean they could be or how aggravating, yet my experience with them is similar to yours. Does, bucks and kids, all come running up to me anytime I go out to see them. They cuddle with me and give me little goat kisses.

The only reason I have to close the headgate while milking is that otherwise I get my neck licked and my hair nibbled. LOL I have one doe called "Lovey" and she follows me around like a puppy. All the goats are affectionate except the buck and he would like to be if I'd let him. A spray bottle really helps discourage overly affectionate behavior, BTW.

They do change your life and your outlook. I have been thinking about moving south in a few years, maybe into town, when I retire from the hospital. Now, I still want to move someplace warmer but I'm not going without my goats.
Goats have brought the joy back to living on a farm and given me a new more meaningful life.

Yep. I long for the moment the children are in bed and I can decompress outside with my girls. Loving on them, brushing them, kisses ... love, love, love that part of my day!
