I can NOT believe I am posting this..

...sigh...

LaManchas. There, I said it. Say a person could get past the freakish lack of ears (which I have not as of yet determined is possible). What is the milk like compared to a Nubian? I have a Nubian. She is a horrible snooty thing, but we like her milk, and the people who buy our milk will ONLY buy her milk.

I have looked for a Nubian, but haven't found one we really love for the right price. What I HAVE found is a really nice looking LaFreak-o. Gulp.

I wonder if the guy would rent her to me for a few weeks just to see if I could really stand to look into the pasture and see her...

That's funny, the only goats I can find around here are Nubians and all I want is a Lamancha.

I can't give you much info on the milk because the one Lamancha I do have is a wether, but I can tell you that their personalities are great.

I am not sure I want another Nubian. I'm actually pretty sure I don't, but everyone prefers her milk to our Oberhasli's milk, to the point where I will keep my sweet, pretty, wonderful milking Ober just to raise a calf on next year, but not to drink the milk ourselves. The thing is that while obnoxious, the Nubians are pretty, so I can get past it. I've never had a Lamancha, but I've heard that their personalities make the looks less of an issue. :P

Aww I want La Manchas sooooooo bad!!

Bad enough in trying to buy the acreage behind me so I can get some next spring

I love their milk....on paper I think it says their butterfat percentage is slightly less, on average, than Nubians.....In a taste test, I couldn't tell the difference in the milk.....but this was at a friends house, with a mixed herd (Toggs, Nubians & Manchas) so all were on the same management...Toggs milk was stronger tasting, but her others all taste the same to me.

I currently have Alpines, but I'm itching to get some earless wonders out here in Noodle

The milk is wonderful clean tasting milk. They are a dream on the milk stand our first fresheners stand there like old pros. Hershey acts like her feet are glued to the stand never stomps or shifts while I milk. We had nubian but got tired of the craziness and noise. Love the small ears myself and now find the long ears not as attractive

Oh my, but a good girl on the milkstand would be such a dreamy thing to experience. My Nubian is just picky...if the winds not blowing right, she stomps. If the cat or a kid walks by too close, she stomps. If her own milk squirts strangely out and hits her leg...well, you get the picture.

Kids run in and out of the barn with ours lots of noise from the dogs barking and kids yelling never faze them at all. We had that trouble with our nubians too and were not looking forward to that first few weeks with the FF LaManchas but they were great.

On average, LaManchas have .5% less milk fat than a Nubian. A half a percent isn't that much. Like Pdog said, our LaManchas have wonderful fresh, clean tasting milk. I actually prefer the Mancha milk over the Nubian milk. I also prefer the tiny ears over the long floppy ears but then I am more drawn to the swiss style breeds more than the Nubian look. And their calm, sweet personalities and their ability to use the brain in their head is wonderful. I haven't missed the Nubians one bit. In fact, I am far happier with goats now that I have my Manchas.

Who could resist that!! I thought of your babies bcadybug while reading the op. I don't think they look freakish AT ALL. I LOVE their look and I would like to have a mini one. (or 2)

A LaFreak owner here. My two earless wonders are the sweetest in the bunch and have a boat load of personality and cutess to go with it. I only have Saanens who all give great tasting milk. I am actually looking forward to some "freak juice" next year.

Those ears are pretty dominant... the big doe is a 75% boer (25% lamancha) and the younger two are her 88% boer daughters.

Ok, Ok... so not much help with the milk issues...

I can't tell the difference between my Nubians and Lamanchas milk. Neither can my family or milk buyers. While I love my Nubians to death, I love the level-headedness of the Lamanchas.
I milk fast, so I always leave the does to eat more grain while I do other chores for a few minutes, then come back and trade them out. Two of my Nubians can not eat if I am out of site. If they are stuck on the stand, they holler till I come back. If they are on the floor eating out of the bucket, they follow me out and around while I chore. All the Lamanchas stand there and EAT, only calling for me when their feed is gone. Yeah, I love the level-headedness of the Lamanchas.

I gotta admit, that pic grosses me out. I don't think it does much to reccomend Lamanchas to those who already have doubts.

Oh my word, NO! That does not help! Is that photoshopped?

Ah, yes. I have had to actually screw the feed pan down to the wood of the stand because if I left her sight, not only would she holler, but she'd flip the feed out onto the ground.
