Found something interesting at TSC today

These little 4 lb mineral blocks called Sturdy Steed for horses. They come in peppermint, apple and carrot flavors. What caught my eye was copper content...1000ppm. I know loose minerals are needed for goats but I thought it would be a nice little treat for them and another opportunity to give them more copper. I couldn't find it on the TSC website but I found it here

They were $3.99 at TSC. And they were over in the bins by the horse area where they sell the little sample sizes and hooks and such.
Oh and no molasses in them

Wonder if you could put it in a bag and take a hammer to it, to make it loose like instead of a block??

Trouble is, goats often eat the loose minerals to get the salt content. Blocks ALWAYS have a SUPER high salt content (it's how they make them into blocks), so the goats often stop eating the more beneficial loose minerals because they're getting all the salt they need from the block, which is often not as accesible to most minerals like loose minerals. All minerals are important, not just copper...

Oh, and at 96% salt, they aren't getting a wortwhile amount of copper from the block anyways.

I tried that once..I used a plastic bag and the hammering hammered wrecked it. Stronger bag would work though.

I couldn't do it, Sammy Sheep lives in there with them. Copper is a no no for Sheep. I think it's copper...a couple of things I need to be very careful with when dealing with my Mixed Family.
