Help Please

Yesterday I drove two hours to pick up a couple LaMancha doelings. These are bottle babies raised on a Lambar system. I have lamb nipples, pritchard nipples and just regular baby bottle nipples. I can't get them to take a bottle! I'm trying not to FREAK OUT here.... this always happens to me. I've never had a baby just take the bottle... which is why I have every varity of nipple!

Anyone have any suggestions? These girls are 10 and 5 weeks old. They were eating hay really well yesterday when I got them home....

I guess I could order a lambar system online and have it overnighted for a MILLION DOLLARS if I have to.

*Sigh* Why me...

Yes, they are reluctant to take any other nipple. You can use the lambar nipples on soda water bottles.

TSC on Monday?

MAYBE if they get hungry today, they will take something else. I don't know.

Wish I was there to help!!

When we've purchased bottle babies in the past they've quite often refused bottles from us at first, no matter which nipples we used. They come around once they're good and hungry! I think sometimes it's more the change in environment and the new owners, not so much the change in nipples. Goats are such creatures of habit.

Don't really have any advice but just wanted to tell you not to freak out just yet. Like Alice & Julie said they will probly take their bottles today when they get good & hungry! Sometimes maybe they sense our frustrations & makes them more resisitant to take the bottle than if were calm & patient maybe?

Let us know how they do.

We're raising a couple of bottle babies right now and I feel your pain. One of them will take any type of bottle/nipple combination that gets near him. The other one will only take a bottle when he gets good and ready. He's eating Bermuda hay and Purina goat chow like a big goat though.

We were able to switch nipples without too much trouble on our bottle babies. If they get hungry they will take it usually

if your holding them dont prichart nipples are the technical term for the nipples you will need. I never stress over the first day of feeding I normally wait several hours before I will try and feed one that i just took off the momma when I dont catch the births.

SUCCESS! They took the bottle. I had to be a bit forceful getting the nipple in their mouths but it worked *sigh of relief*

Thanks so much for the advice! I guess they just weren't hungry enough or just a little confused about the whole situation.

OPS.. and I forgot pictures... *grabs camera and heads for the door*

I'll be right back :happy0035:
