stupid question about electric fence

Just asking this makes me feel like an idiot...but I'm going to ask it anyway...

If I hook up 2 lower powered fence chargers to the same fence and grounding rods, will I have double the charge of just using 1?

Nope, and it's not recommended to have more than one charger per fence

They also say there should be seperate grounding systems, but I don't see any logical reason for that

Do not use lower powered electric fence chargers for goats. It simply won't work. Go to Tractor Supply or one of those places where they have the chargers and charts for what works on which animals.

You really need one that puts out about 6 joules. HIGH POWER!

they will not work - to my understanding - they short each other out or something - you need at least a 100 mi charger to keep goats in no matter how little the area, in my experience.

not just a higher power charger for goats but also several lines the charger here almost knocks me out but landlord only runs 1 to 2 wires for his cows which workss well for cows and horses ...but not my goats:

That's why I went to electric NET fence for goats. Seven strands would NOT stop mini goats.

I have used the netting and it works well, but I also just ran 8 strands of white hot poly-rope (the thinnest with the most strands of stainless steel wires I could find). I put in the round fiberglass rods about 7' apart and ran the 8 strands of hot rope about 5" spacing (closer together toward the bottom, so more like 3" apart at the bottom up to 5" apart at the top). This keeps my dogs away from my goats and my goats away from my dogs REALLY well!!

My fencer is a HUGE solar fencer Parmak rated for 25 miles of fence (you have to remember that each strand of hot rope has 7-11 strands of wire running through it....that means more miles of fencing than actual...)

Hi,
I have used electric fence for many years. They are right about using 2 chargers and the strength of your charger. We use a charger with a minimum of 6 joules. All of our fences are either 5 or 6 strands of high tensile. When we first got into goats we had 1000's of feet of the white tape type of fencing. We learned the hard way after a few years that the small wires inside of it will break. You can't tell where your short is. We felt that we wasted alot of time and money. As far as the goats getting out. We have only had a couple of problems with the high tensile over the years. The couple that have got out. Stand on the other side wanting back in. I do have a sprayer on my 4 wheeler that I spray under the bottom wire twice a summer to kill all growth.

After you touch it once. I doubt if you will ever touch it again.

Good luck,
Paul

I use the TSC charger, think it is 50 mile, I use 3 strands of the 1 1/2" electric tape with it. I haven't had any trouble keeping does and kids in (ND's) , but the buck was another question. He had to go. Fort Knox would have been a cake walk for him lololl MJ
