I am stumped...

So the fecal sample that I dropped off at the vet on Monday finally came back (after I called yesterday reminding them that I have sick animals and that fecals should be quick and easy to do...I was not exactly polite). They said that the eggs they saw were well within the normal range and that it looked like a very healthy sample. I wormed everyone yesterday anyway, but I am totally confused now. Why are my goats all looking pale?? CAE and lyme tests came back negative earlier in the year. They haven't been exposed to any other animals.

Unfortunately this vet is the only one in the area, they charge way too much money to do anything, are not reliable and don't seem to have much knowledge of goats. I really can't afford to pay another $100 to have them come and run some blood samples.

help!

I don't know what blood tests they would run other than Johnes. Hmmmm.

They didn't tell you numbers of eggs or what kinds of eggs?

There is a lab that does reasonably priced fecal testing with mailed in samples. I'll see if I can find the info.

BRB.

Found it!

Could it be lice? Ivomec and Cydectin are *supposed* to kill lice, but I've found that I have to use powder to control them, especially during and right after winter.

Liverfluke very well may not show up in a fecal. My goats were pale but really turned around with Liverfluke worming. I have slugs here. Also building the immune system with vitamin C, D, E, Right Now Onyx, Bo-se. Vitamin D is way underrated in cloudy climates in my experience. Anyway, all I can speak is my experience.

I wonder if you can get fecals done through the state? Might be more accurate. Here in VA, I just mail ours to the state ag lab. If I mail on a Monday, I can usually get faxed results by the next afternoon with counts and types

If it's still cold where you're at it could be that the worms haven't started laying eggs yet. They are in there sucking blood but you won't find them on a fecal.
