Maybe thinking about selling my Nubians. . .

I am tempted to sell all or most of my Nubian does and go into Saanens. . .lol. Someone talk me into or out of this!

Some of the best bloodlines to be found at a great deal from a fellow I know - doelings. . . American though, not PB. . . but I can't deal with 3 breeds - I've tried that before.

Nubians, as I've experienced them, as less hardy all around when I compare them to Saanens, and in my area, Saanens are harder to come by, where Nubians are everywhere.

I love my gals dearly, and all are in milk - I couldn't let them go but to the best homes. . . which are hard to come by, so that along would likely disuade me, and plus, I just paid $60 to have a late application put in for LA - which I wouldn't do for these Saanen doelings. . . are they would just be 3 months old. . .

Someone talk me one direction or the other, and if anyone has a good, solid goat background looking for does in milk in WV, Oh or Ky - lol - you can always PM me - haa haa.

LOL! See! HAA HAA - I'm nearly sold!

Also, when they are all white - you can't get swayed by spots and such!

I think it is harder to find a quality saanen then some other breeds. Of course I would like to have a long teated Nubian like yours so yes get out of them and get saanens. I'll take your poor unwanted nubian does

I think you'll get bored with all the blank, regular eared goats after having nubians.

No, it's GOOD to have them all one color-makes it harder to count how many there really are.
Hubby-"why are there 16 goats in the pasture?"
Wife-"What? there's only 12, you must have counted some of them twice."

We sold our couple of Nubians for the same reason. The doe wouldn't breed every year, she was an airhead, and she stepped on my toes all the time.

I like the white goats. Only have one just now, but all the does that are remaining to kid in May are bred to a Saanen.

I've got plenty of milk at the moment, but of couyrse that little buck would be useless to you, so I guess he could come live at my house...

I would go for the more hardy breed in a heartbeat.
On our homestead we are now raising only hardy animals.

I had two Saanen does once. I really, really liked them. I didn't want two breeds so I sold them and kept my Nubians. The ears, better tasting milk, and always a surprise in color. Although, I really wouldn't mind having some Saanens again. Maybe someday.

The lady who owns the buck we used this year has some Saanens. I want one! But I would still keep my Alpine girls for color. I like to look out at the field and have a variety We had a Nubian, but got rid of her. She was a pain to keep healthy and she reared up and head butted my then five year old son.

Of course, DH will kill me if I buy anymore goats, so the only way I'm getting any Saanen blood here is if it's an Alpine cross. Funny thing though, he always complains about the animals. But when I told him someone was coming to look at the two doelings we have so far and might take one, he said he had been starting to hope we could keep them both. What?!? I just about fell over, lol. He's a softy, he just tries to hide it

FYI, I like the Saanen that I got from Georgia girl, shes a great milker and very easy to work with but as about as bland as a saltless soda cracker when it comes to personality, shell live her life here but I would say I wish I had started with the Nubians first

I LOVE Nubians. I love their milk, their colors, their personalities. I raise LaManchas now. I love their milk, color, and sweet dispositions. I find them easier to work with and they are much much quieter(is that a word?).

Come to the white side of life - LOL. Out of my eight girls, 6 are Saanens (in addition to two LaMacha doelings) and all except one are sweeter than pie. Now keep in mind, they are still goats and will still ditch the sweet nature when it comes to feeding time and run you over just the same If I were closer, I might considering trading one Nubian doeling for a Saanen doeling, but KS is a little far from TN.

I'd trust you with them, too! haa haa - that is my main fear - - - I must be sure if I sell, the quality of the home is as good as it is here. You need all 3 of those ones! lol
