What is happening and should I be worried?
I have a almost 4 week old Angora bottle baby. We have had her since she was 2 weeks old. All along she has been drinking a 6-9 ounce bottle of fresh goats milk 4 times a day. Saturday we wormed her with Valbazen and started her on kid/lamb pellets and alfalfa pellets. This morning she refused her bottle. She doesn't seem sick, and is running and jumping around in her stall happily. What is happening here?

Have you started her on coccidia prevention?

They can have pain from coccidia without acting like much is wrong.

The Corid is down the hatch, but she still won't take a bottle. How long can she go without her bottle? She did eat a couple handfuls of alfalfa pellets and kid/lamb feed last night or over night. She drank about 6 ounces of milk at bedtime.

You know you have to give Corid for five days, right? How much did you give her, and what does she weigh?

Here are the doses:

It will take a little time. The Corid doesn't work real fast, it doesn't flat out kill the coccidia. Rather it cuts off a nutrient that allows them to grow the last, and destructive, stage of their life. An antiinflammatory, like banamine, will help with the pain and help prevent scarring.

Yes, I know it will take time. I'm hoping not to lose her while I wait for it to work, though, so that's why I asked how long she can go without her bottle. I can give her sub-q fluids, of needed, or even tube feed her. I just need a little guidance. Where do I get banamine? If it has to be ordered, I may not get it til next week.

I'll have to check with another vet, I guess. She knew what it is. She raises meat goats herself, but I guess she doesn't use it. My son did get Yolanda to take a bottle, finally, this evening, but he had to be pretty pushy about it. Hopefully we can get her to take one more before bed time.

I always start cocci prevention at 3 weeks of age but I am a bit confused I guess why Alice & Southerngurl think it's cocci this little one has?
She said she was acting normal, jumping & playing but just didn't want her bottle.

Coccidia will cause stomach pain/discomfort that will cause them to go off feed. However, it isn't always bad enough they don't run around and play. They are just afraid to eat because it activates the inflamed digestive system.

She ate the pellets last night, but hasn't eaten any of them today. If you don't think we should try to get her to take another bottle tonight, we won't.

I would definitely offer it. Does she still have normal pellets?

Ok. I'm sending my son to see if she will take a bottle. He was who got her to drink it earlier. Her poop was more normal today than it had been. Before today she had gotten poop smeared on my shirt when I held her.
