ADGA membership

What are the benefits of being a member of ADGA? I only have one ND doe who won't kid until August. Also, I have the registration papers for my ND buck, what are the benefits of registering him? Is this something I need to do when I will be small scale?

Benefits of registering your animals are pretty high for the animals. The ones you sell will command a higher price, both you and your buyers will be able to track pedigree, etc. There are numerous reasons to register an animal, and many of them are of benefit to the animal.

For someone who has one or two does, full membership? ~shakes her head~ Only if you want to do the whole herd name thing, show your animals, or your does are going to have enough kids that the savings for the "member prices" for registering then will outweigh the cost of membership?

I might add one thing, if you need a buck to breed your doe (which you don’t at this point) you can find one in your area with the ADGA guide.
That’s why I’m part of the ADGA, I want to find like minded folks with quality animals.
You still need to go and see, but at least you have a place to start looking ….
It's $30 a year, not to bad for a solid contact, you can call people and they can call you, and you know they are "Goat" people and will understand you.

My buck is registered and I had thought of registering him because if I get a doeling out of this breeding I would want to keep her and I would be leery of line breeding that close. That was my thought on registering him at least. No papers on my doe but from what I saw on the site I can register her just not as a purebred. In the dog world it's "single registering" that you can do on some dogs if they fit the standard.

I will think about this a bit because my buck was registered when he was born but the person I bought him from never got him registered in her name so from what I can tell it will be more expensive. Sounds like it might be worth it though in the long run. Thanks for the information!
