Goats that don't climb

I have a mother and daughter couple of goats who don't climb. They both just don't like to jump up on things or scamper or do any of those normal goaty behaviors.

BOTH of them use this position instead of climbing. Do your goats do this?

This is Princess, three or so years ago. She's now eleven.

Too cute! Maybe they're just lazy?

No, I don't think they are lazy. They don't mind hiking into the forest for browse.

They are *really* not happy when asked even to step up into the milk house.

I have 2 nigerians that dont climb (well actually one died a few months ago but you get the picture) they where mom and daughter as well. They dont mind the milk stand (but it is short). One of them tends to carry extra meat on her bones so I always thought it was that and perhaps her daughter learned the behavior from her.

Mine are all typical goaties, but my biggest snuggler likes to get in my lap just like in your pictures. If I sit down, he likes to heave just his front end in my lap

Maybe they can't hoist those bellies up anymore. Looks like a lot of ballast to me.

The older goat has kidded about a gazillion times.....ok, well, ten, and she's had multiples most times, so I think that could be it. Her middle is sprung. Old age spread.

I wonder if her daughter learned it from her. She is the BIGGEST goat I have for sure.

Sure looks strange, doesn't it!?!

My adults do not climb much either. I thought it comes with being adult. They do not do buck jumps like the young ones anymore either. I remember when they were younger they climbed on any vehicle, tractor, visitors' cars, daughter's van was a favorite, you name it. I used to be a lot more chipper myself.
I remember the one that just had triplets, when she was a teenager and climbing with her sister on a big oak that fell in a way to be held up by another tree. I was sure they would all fall out of that tree, one wanting up and the other down, twenty feet off the ground. She sure is not much into climbing anymore.

I have one girl that will stand on lots of things with only her front legs. But she will climb too. She's the only one who does this.

All of mine still like to climb & jump up on things. As the girls get older though I notice they don't do it alot especially if they are big pregnant. My 2 FF mini nubian does just kidded with in the last week & I watched 1 jump up on the side of the stall in the barn yesterday & it is 4 feet tall, there's wood on top so she has a place to balance herself.

My lamanchas aren't climbers or jumpers. The alpines can hop a 5' fence. And climb trees.
