Need Bill of Sale, Breeder won't respond.

I need to get a goat transferred into my name so I can register her kids. The breeder is a real piece of work and won't respond to my requests to send a Bill of Sale/Transfer which I need to get the certificate in my name. It took me 5 months to get her to send me the certificate for one of my other goats but I have a bill of sale for that one. This is all with AGS. Does anyone have any recommendations? Will AGS transfer the goat to my name without a Bill of Sale?

If you had a problem before with this seller..I probably would not have went back for another goat. I had a problem many, many years ago thinking I was buying a purebred registgered nubian buck kid. When my registration papers finally arrived..he was a grade buck. I was very upset. The seller said she had gotten the papers from the other breeder after I bought the kid and of course we didn't want to return him to her by then. She was a piece of work and saw her at sales years later. She was a crook and the other women was also a piece of work for sure. I don't understand why they couldn't have scribbled you a bill of sale that day. I would call and tell them about her and how "not" honest they are in your dealings. There must be something they can do...for you and to warn others about this seller too. Why can't people just be honest..I just don't get it...

Just another thought too. Call your local justice of the peace and ask them if they could possibly send them a letter. This is no different than buying a car and not getting the title to it. It just might shake them up a bit too..dealing with the law. This is really a legal issue too. Good Luck !!

I knew someone was going to say that. A little background, the timeline is a little weird. I bought the goat in question from her first and she sent me her registration papers right away, as soon as she got them from AGS. I never got a bill of sale and I wasn't aware until recently that you had to transfer goats into your name to register their kids. The whole goat registration thing still confuses me. Like why does it need to be in my name, it's still going to have the breeders name on there? Anyway, I bought the second goat from her a few months later, up until then I had no problems with her. She said she would send me the papers just like the first goat, I had no reason to believe she wouldn't send them soon because the transaction with the first goat was pretty smooth. Months went by with me pestering her, I was starting to think this goat wasn't even registered. She got this goat from Buffalo Creek and it was registered I checked up on the dam on their website and it looks just like my doe. I finally got the papers and it came with a bill of sale so that goat is taken care of. Okay now it's over a year after I got papers for the second goat and the first goat has kids that I want to register and I don't have the bill of sale.

But I've been on other boards and people have complained about her. I have Nigerians and there aren't a lot of legitimate breeders around here, so many have gone to her since she seemed legit. It seems like she started out breeding and now she is just into goat trading buying from breeders and selling to people looking for Nigerians and she is not keeping track of who needs what from the goats they bought from her and basically not responding to anyone. I really don't want to deal with her anymore. I just want to get that goat in my name and be on my way.

Perhaps someone at the registry could send the breeder a little "reminder" to follow up? If you asked them?

Always, always, always leave with papers and transfer requirements IN HAND at time of sale. Or, at least have a written reciept signed by both of you that states the payment was for a REGISTERED/REGISTERABLE goat.

If the seller is within driving distance, I would try going over and knocking on the door if cars are in the driveway.

I"ve never run into that problem, but I've heard you don't have much recourse short of if you have proof take them to court. OR, put a picture on your website stating the goats name & that the kids would be registerable IF the Seller would keep their word.

Not sure if the registry would get involved.....I'd keep pestering her until she meets her part of the bargain.

I agree here. But I'd also call Amy at the AGS office and see if she has any suggestions. Can't hurt.

Sounds like you have everything you need unless I'm missing something?
Register the goats into your name and then you can register the kids you bred. Registration papers are your bill of sale. If doe 1 was bred at time of sale, then you need a service memo, not bill of sale.

I've never gotten a bill of sale. I get the papers with the appropriate signatures.

I've never registered a goat with the AGS, so I'm not sure how it works. If the transfer information is filled out on the registration paperwork, then you should be good to go. If you have any questions, calling AGS would clear them up most likely.

had a situation similar myself several years ago. I feel in love with the obies, and just figured I'd never find one close--but I did! they were pretty and since these were among very first goats for me, I knew nothing and trusted this breeder. ha, dumb! when I picked up my young bred obie, I paid with a check, and she said 'now that I have your address, I can get the papers done'. that seemed odd, as I've papered horses and dogs, but hey, these are goats, so I trusted her.

MONTHS went by, I wanted to sell one of those babies but the gal who wanted the kid wanted a papered kid, so I'd need the service memo. it took over 5 months, and in the end when I finally got her on the phone, she was horribly rude, as if I enjoyed having to call her over and over?! she also slammed one of her other breeder 'friends' to me, and several others as well. just a shady gal all the way around.

lesson learned, never walk away without the papers in hand, period. unless you truly do not care if that goat will be unpapered in the end, cuz when you walk without them, that's what you've got.

sounds like some of you didn't even need a bill of sale. I do have the registration papers. I guess I'll just ask ags what I really need even though their website specifically says they require a bill of sale for transfer.

Did the seller sign the registration papers? If they signed the seller part, that IS the bill of sale.

No, no signature on the registration certificate. It actually says on the certificate not to write on it.

Oh. I wonder what she has given you? Can you scan and attach it here for us to see?

As you have possession of the goat and that paper, I think you need to call the registry/association and see what to do next.

Anything we tell you is a guess. Sorry!

it's a registration certificate, the same anyone would get from AGS for a purebred goat. Look at your certificate closely, it says not to write on it.
