You know you are a "goat addict" when...

your husband turns 50 on Sunday and you forgot until your mother in law called to see what you were doing for his birthday. AND he is the most wonderful guy in the world so your world revolved around him and your children - until you got goats....

Now. Make me feel better and post your stories. (please)

You are in Texas for six months, and you only travel to Austin ONCE to see your granddaughter. It was her birthday, and I got someone to milk.

Luckily, they drove down here several times.

I don't always remember my OWN birthday because of the goats. It's in April, so I often miss it because of kidding season.

I am with you, Alice....my daughter and granddaughter live in Beaumont....but I can't always find someone to do the milking....

Oh yeah, that's right. That man and those small people that live here are my husband and children! Thank you for reminding me...

LOL, just kidding We don't go see relatives very often either because of the goats. And lots of things get put off during kidding time.

Does it count if I say I've skipped SEVERAL family functions because I had to milk and didn't have anyone to do it for me??

That would sound awful....but those missed family functions just so happen to be with the INLAWS!

My MIL and sister in law (DSIL??) are coming to visit the last weekend of this month. MIL has never visited us since we moved from WI to Mpls. 13 years ago. I have not seen her in at least 10 years...I don't remember the last time. Whenever we visit family in WI one of us stays home to tend to the critters. So this is a big event to have them come visit And I'm trying to teach Gretta to be nice to strangers.

Our anniversary was April 1st. We didn't go out to dinner because we were on kidding watch (and still are). Fortunately DH is as much of a goat addict as I am. We haven't traveled together for years as one of us has to stay home to milk and do chores. Local family functions are scheduled around our milking and/or kid feeding schedules.

My daughter showed my 2 year old Grandson a pic of my goat and her new kids. My Grandson said "sheep", Daughter said "goats"!, Grandson said, "Granny"!

when you said - "let's just get a couple of goats", which turned into a herd of 8 in less than 2 months.

DH knew this would happen anyway when we went to visit a dairy/cheese producer who milks over 100 does. He asked her how many she started out with and she said just 3 and it grew like wildfire from there. Goats - you can't have just one (well you shouldn't either, but you know what I mean).

I forget lots of things, unless I put a reminder in my cell phone, which alarms to remind me
All this time I have been blaming work, animals in general and lack of sleep. I could have just been saying one word instead... Goats!

....hmmm... well.. my mother died suddenly two weeks ago... my sister called to tell me.. and her first words after "mom is dead" .. were.... " I know it's kidding season and you won't be able to come for the funeral, BUT.. we all understand and it's totally okay! they didn't want me to leave the moms-to-be and risk something happening.. She said mom would have felt the exact same way.. got to be here for the girls.

My daughter (also my goat partner) got married last year.. they are starting to talk about starting a family.. she has already sat down and worked out what months she will have free for HER to kid out in LOL.. (the goats have March/Apr/May.. for their kidding season.. she doesn't want to be milking huge or with a newborn... that means no late winter baby....SO..they are going to try for a july/aug/early sep baby.. all the does will have already kidded, the kids will have been weaned... it's not breeding season yet.. so sure, we could *probably* take time off to have a human baby about then.. LOL...
okay, so I guess the goats really do rule our lives!!!!!

susie, mo ozarks

Im lucky I have back ups incase of an emergency, but I have not seen my NY family in years, they have not even seen the last two children.

I can say that the other day I was talking with a co worker about my pregnancy and a few moments later a customer/friend asked how many kids I was having meaning goats and I immediately said just one, they looked at me funny then I realized that they ment goat kids.
I did notice I have more goat/farm pics on my pc than I do of family
