Speaking of bolusing....

I tried the "feed the copper rods to them in a treat" method a while back. I do have some very greedy girls, so I know they got it that way. BUT, now I am seeing fishtail, bare noses, etc. Time to actually bolus.

I have to bolus every three months. Not my favorite activity.

How long is "a while back?" I did my Penny and my Buck Gregory last fall, and she is definitely needing it again!

I recently did 28 goats and it was easy, shocking to me, lol. First I tried marshmallows, made up a dozen, found out only 10 like them. So two were trash but that's ok. Then I used peanut butter and put it between a pair of Saltines.

Mine are always starving but I waited till they were all laying in the sun relaxing and would go up to one and pet them giving them a cracker. As soon as it became a stampede I went back in the house made more, they settled down and I went around again. Three trips, done in no time, I just wish I had someone writing down who got it when since I had to do that and dole them out at the same time.

I thought they weren't suppose to chew them? Don't they chew the marshmallows, or saltines with p-nut butter?

I made up peanut butter balls, they gobbled them down. But I'm seeing signs they need more, that was about a month ago.

Okay, I have never attempted "bolus"ing because I thought it somehow involved popping it down their throats. It never occurred to me it was treat time. Where, again, do I get these boluses? At least one of my girls could really use it.

You can pop it down their throats, pill like, or give it to them in treats. I have done both methods and have not seen any difference in the effects.

You can buy boluses from Cannon_Farms or southerngirl here on HT, which are already pre-measured for your goat's weight, or you can buy the jar of calf-sized Copasure boluses and split them up yourself.
