3 Nigerians, 1 Saanen and 1 Nubain on the...

Coldest night of the past month all have goo All where due between now and in the next three days. I guess the good news is none are in active labor however that means many middle of the night checks.

Oh, btw my dear sweet daughter for some reason turned the weanlings out with the rest of the herd, one whom apparently refuses to be weaned sucked her momma dry of what was hopefully colostrum, so good thing Im pulling the kids and the Saanen is on over full.

yea, really. so far nothing exciting yet. Some how said naughty not weaned kid escaped the kid pen, ran and got herself back into the main pasture during the night and managed to get in some how. pretty amazing considering I have 4x4 goat wire and my gate is wired with 1x2 welded wire 3 feet up.

My Saanen has been off to herself and wont go into the barn with everyone else and clings to me like Velcro when I go out there, kinda figured Id go out to kids this morning from her

At least they are holding on for daylight. May get some better kidding videos without my daughters narrations

Looks like Saanen id going to go first, she was down on the lower end and shes having trouble getting around, just milked the poor thing and got right at a gallon off her, half my body is thoughly clean as she was in the mood to lick.

I do have a question, her milk is pretty white compared to the normal yellow colostrum but since it was so much is that normal? Nigerians have had thick yellow colostrum and so has any thing else i have expressed milk out of.

She had mastitis the last time she freshend, I had some milk clots and one maybe inch long string come out of her but the rest was fine, should I be concerned about that with her?

still waiting. Saanen is showing the most progress so far. I think they are waiting for the rain that is coming in this evening. I pulled the Saanen and Nubian into the kidding pens, the Nigerians are old pros but one and shes the loudest one of all my goats. The Saanen is huge, I wouldnt be surprised if I get a litter from her, and the nubian is a FF.
I really got to get set up better here. Now Im rethinking the grand idea lets breed them all at the same time so we get it over with

I didn't Bo-Se before breeding, and Mardi gave me quads! I don't think I am going to take on that management practice, Alice. If I do that, what will she give me next year as a second freshener? sextuplets?

I am going to be having more goats kidding next year, and more FFs too... I am thinking I like the 5 days apart breeding...gives me a chance at some sleep.
