Looks like we are going to loose one of the dudes...

Cami doesn't want anything to do with him. He slept all day and then, tonight, when dh tried to get him to eat, he showed absolutely no interest....

His cry is different than it should be (more shrill?) and his poo seems a little runnier than it should be.

Sigh. Not sure what to do. He was fine last night and this morning. What would cause this? The other two seem fine....

Sorry about your baby. When I have one that is down I put them on a heating pad snuggled up wrapped in a blanket. I figure if they are going to die at least it will be peaceful and cozy and if not it gives them an opprotunity to make it.

Take the other babies temperatures. I believe that it's easy to underestimate a babies ability to keep warm.

Sometimes these things happen..there could be a defect inside...I lost a buckling out of my batch of kids. He was standoffish during the morning bottle time... but he took his bottle when I fed...he didn't eat well during lunch bottle time and by afternoon bottle time he was gone.

If I have one outside that acts off, especially with the cold fronts and storms we've had moving through, I bring them inside with a buddy and they stay inside. Wrapped in warm towels if need be. If you can tube feed, sometimes that helps warm up their core temp and give them a boost. Sorry you lost one. Sometimes it just happens and there's not much you can do.

Other than bringing him in and making sure he is good and warm and then trying to get some milk down him, there just isn't a whole lot you can do. (((hugs)))

I am still keeping my fingers crossed for your little guy Betsy, I sure hope he makes it.
Like Suzyhomemaker said maybe there is something internally wrong with him & Cami just knows it?

Thanks everyone. The little guy didn't make it. Other than sleeping a lot yesterday he seemed fine until feeding time last night. His tummy was full when I checked it during the afternoon - but when dh went out & tried to get him to eat right before I posted, the boy didn't want anything to do with eating & dh said Cami didn't want anything to do with him.

We probably should have brought the boy in. I didn't think of that until this morning when I checked back on here. We did make sure that he was snuggled in a nice pile of hay.

I will keep a close eye on the other two. Stuff like this makes me paranoid.

sometimes it just happens.. in fact.. EXACTLY the same thing happened here with one of Lydia's bucklings on Sunday... big, healthy looking guy.. ate well the first day, up and getting around great.. then the high pitched cries every once in a while, (sounded like gut pain)... runnier yellow poo.. normal temp.. gave him a little banamine.. still cried.. wouldn't eat.. tubed him.. didn't help a bit... It was obvious that something was very wrong & nothing I was doing was helping.. just prolonging things.. I put him out of his pain.

He was one of the black ones. Probably the strongest to start out - all three of them had to have help with a leg & we splinted the other black one's leg. The blonde guy is smallest & was born last.

Would it have been FKS? I just read LaMancha Paul's post & I know it was early - but, looking back, he did have a lot of the symptoms...

Thanks, Susie! He is the first little guy we have lost - and it is hard not to start second guessing myself - did I spray the umbilical cord well enough? Did I clean the pen well enough when I put Cami in? Should I have cleaned it again? Her ankles have been swollen, so she has been in there longer than normal.... Did I do this right? Did I do that wrong?

That is exactly what it was like with this guy. Last night when I went out to take his temp, he was so far gone - I just made a bed of hay & put him in it. He was sleeping & I just let him go.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost one. It's never any fun. The same thing happened here, but he lasted a bit longer. My doe had two bucklings, both were up at first, then one got too cold (I wasn't the one checking on them) and died that night. The second one seemed to be doing great for the first two days, then couldn't get up. It happens, and sometimes it has nothing to do with anything you did or didn't do. Last year, this same doe had two doelings and my FIL was convinced that one was going to die, but just ask Oat Bucket if Hershey seems dead and to me she started off worse than these guys and made it. As long as you did what you could, then sometimes that's all you can do.
