extra colostrum?

A friend of mine who is also a newbie to raising dairy goats (started about the same time I did...about 6 months ago) said she was reading an article that claimed that giving doelings extra colostrum at birth (I forget how much extra) significantly increased milk production over the course of their lives. Have any of you ever heard of this?

Also, I want to have some colostrum on hand when my does are kidding (which shouldn't be until the end of may...although I do have a doe who is starting to bag up now and I am wondering if she may be kidding early....) and I am wondering if there is any specific kind of colostrum that is better or worse. I know that goat milk replacer is bad, is it a similar story with commercially available colostrum?
