Day 151

and she acts like nothing is going to happen....My Saanen that is on day 147 acts like she's closer to labor now.

This is going to end up driving me crazy.

Mary, you aren't there yet? I thought just GETTING goats automatically put one on the list for future institutionalization!

~e-mails you some hugs and 8 solid hours of sleep~

Now it appears that she's having contractions. Udder is pretty tight, can't feel ligaments like I can on my Saanen (but I don't know if they are completely gone or not). turning away from us and looking into the corner of the pen. Really is acting irritated with those contractions though.

Guess who is back at the feeder and acting mostly normal. I know she's still having contractions though by the way she's acting. She can't stay pregnant forever!

She can have soft labor contractors for 48 hours before delivery. Their purpose is to get the kids into position for birth. Until, however, her hips start sloping and spreading, and the ligaments get so soft they cannot be felt, then the birth canal cannot open wide enough to pass kids. That's why the ligaments are the BIG deal in figuring out when they are gonna pop.

But...do NOT think that eating is a huge sign they are not going to deliver soon. I've only had two does that didn't at least nibble up to an hour before they kidded. Brie munched happily on grain and treats a half an hour before she kidded.

I can feel my Saanens ligaments, but I can't find them on my Alpine. Her hoo-ha is much puffier too. In fact, it almost feels like i can wrap my hand around her spine down by her tail.

You are SO staying up tonight.

Unless she is nice to you and kids within the hour or so. Generally, though, losing the ligs means *no more* that 16 hours before kids.

Get a place in your barn that is comfy and get your pillows, comforter, etc., ready. ~hugs~ So happy for you!

DH and I are taking turns running out and checking on them every so often. With the newborn in the house, it's been fun. We keep the baby monitor on too, and while one of us is out there, the other is relaying what we are seeing. LOL We're anxious and excited for sure.
