Starting with meat goats

Hi,
We have had goats for several years, they are all pets and are used to keep the property clear of grass and brush and for our entertainment. We love them and would never sell them for food.

But, we want to find some way to generate some income from our property. We both have full time jobs we intend to keep, so this wont be a full time thing. Since we already have goats, and know how to care for them and how to make more goats appear, we are thinking about breeding some new goats to be sold for meat.

I've been gathering some research materials. I was hoping someone could point to some tips or things I want to consider and how to get started. Do I need any sort of license? Where do I sell the goats? Livestock auction, local butchers, straight to the public? We don't know how to butcher and don't really have facilities for it so I was hoping we could sell the goats live. We are located in Northern California.

Thanks!
