An answer at last...Boer buck or Nubian buck

Last October our brand spankin' new Saanen, who came into heat the day after we brought her home, wanted NOTHING to do with the Boer whom she was supposed to breed with and EVERYTHING to do with the leased Nubian buck. Well, that Nubian had been an absolute darling until that Jezebel showed up. He jumped 6 fences to get to her, three days in a row. We DID see the boer breed her, but we also saw that Nubian breed her. Well, today she kidded with two beautiful doelings, Bridgett and Fiona. Drum roll please..........they are traditional boer coloring with one red/brown rump and one snip on a tail. Phew! She may have had a fling, but the boer got the bling!

AWESOME!
We are waiting to see if we can tell who bred our boer, we were going to wait as we now have a fullblood reg male, but the pygmy and the pygmy/nigerian cross both had visits with her, so we are wondering what who the daddy is, we really didnt care as any boys were going to be meat and girls we were going to wait and see. Same with cocoa, both boys squeezed passed me and mated with her right after the other, she should be about 150 days on Thursday so soon we will see who the daddy is, if we can even tell.

I had a Nubian buck like that. He threw beautiful kids, but went to auction because I could not keep him contained. He'd come over two fencelines to be where he was not supposed to be.

Wait, so, a doe can have multiples from different sires? I had heard this was possible among cats and dogs, but goats too???

Yes, each egg can be fertilized by sperm from a different male donor. It can occur in humans as well, just isn't as likely.

I have seen three cases of this occur here at the farm that I knew of for sure. Some other suspects, but when you have the same breed of bucks breeding a doe it is impossible to tell without DNA testing unless there is a polled gene in there.
