Doe's messing with us!

Our first doe to freshen started showing all the signs last Friday -- sunken back end, tendons gone, far away look in the eyes, signs of discomfort, lost the mucus plug, little interest in feed, etc, etc. (This was on day #140 of gestation, so we were concerned she was going to kid prematurely).

We put her in the kidding pen and started round the clock video monitoring -- at one point, she was having fairly frequent contractions, so we bundled the children out to watch the birthing process. Nothing.

Five days later, we're still waiting... she seems content enough, though uncomfortable, of course, and we can feel the kid(s) moving around.

I think the darn goat just wanted to move into the deluxe accommodations and has been pranking us... She was a stealth kidder last year, so we're watching extra close this year. Watched pot never boils, right?

Well if last friday was day 140, today is day 145 so she's pretty close for sure. I have a doe that usually goes on day 146.
They do like to keep us guessing though, it's a goat thing!!

Well, we had another doe move from ligaments gone to twin does on the ground within two hours, and our first doe is still unchanged. Ligaments have been GONE for a week, periodic contractions since then, but she's still eating and apart from the discomfort of the contractions, she doesn't seem distressed at all.

She's at day 147 now. Her udder has finally filled out, so I guess this is progress?

We're still video monitoring 24/7 and it's driving us crazy!

She finally went today! From the start of real labor, it was about 30 minutes before we could pull the first one (a buck), and then she took her time -- about another hour and a half where we could see another hoof, but she just wasn't pushing. The second one was a doe!

Congradulations! Does can be terrible about making us their slaves during their pregnancies! I had one pass her mucus plug four weeks before she delivered, I thought I was going to have a stroke from the tension while waiting for her to kid. Luckily she finally let them out before I had to be rushed to the hospital. I think she figured that if I was in the hospital, who would wait on her hand and foot? lol
