Another wormer question...

We asked the vet about deworming and he said that there is a resistance here. His recommendation was Cydectin Pour On - orally at 2x the cattle dosage when things start getting green in the spring (now), after the second frost in the fall, and as needed when symptoms are noted.

I have a couple girls that are due late March and one late April. Can I go ahead and dose the entire herd? I am seeing "sticky poo" in the doe due in late April - she usually gets "sticky poo" when it is time to deworm her - but I would hate to do anything that could hurt the kids.

Last time I used Ivermectin, I still had a problem with worms and had to use the Cydectin, anyway. I know Valbazen is a big no, Ivermectin is okay, but I am not sure about the Cydectin.

Thanks.

Cydectin is safe for pregnant does', it's the Ivermectin Plus that is a No No also for pregnant does' until after 100 days bred.

In dairygoat.com wormer info it says I believe not to use any chemicals before 100 days bred unless of course it's needed to save your doe.
I'll get the link for you to all the wormer info.

Thanks! She should be close. I will check the calendar & do them all with the Cydectin when she is 100 days - she is my last girl due. No big symptoms except sticky poo - I will monitor that.

I didn't know about the Ivermectin Plus. That is good to know - especially since I have found the Ivermectin to be ineffective here and had just started thinking about using the Ivermectin Plus.

I would appreciate the link.

See if this works, I'm trying to be as good as Alice with the links thing.
Ouch. Nope. I can't get it. I can ask my dd to help. She is a wonderful computer nerd teenager.

Thanks.

That link is great, it explains the different wormers & which parasites/worms each wormer will work on, of course if they are resistant in your area you'll have to use something else.

The Ivermectin Plus injectible covers more worms than regular Ivermectin.

Added to my bookmarks! THANK-YOU!

Now, I have to sign off & go out to do my barn check. One doe lost her ligs & her tail is waving high. Hopefully tonight will be a quick labor & I can read the link tomorrow!
