Eaating dairy goats

Our sanaan had two bucks and we are considering raising them for meat..
My husband was thinking about wethering them and waiting for them to grow for a year or so and then butchering them. Anybody do this? Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks

delicious. But I'd butcher them out late fall/early winter.

We raise Nubians; and any buckling not spoken for from birth goes in our deep freeze.

We always pen them up away from their dams & rest of herd when they are around 6 months old, feed them grain 2 times a day with quality orchard grass all the time and watch to see when they start gaining weight. That is when we butcher them and we usually get 40+ lbs of meat from each...all tender.

We just butchered a just weaned mini alpine buck. Meat was really tender and he was actually way meatier than I expected. His twin is off to freezer camp as soon as I get a companion for my bottle buck......Was going to let him grow or a bit more, but that snot gores me in the rear every stinking morning with his lil 3" horns and I'm speckeled in bruises.....Sooner he goes the better!

My Hispanic customers like them at weaning. Very tender for barbacoa.

I skip the wethering and eat them at 2-6 months. They are sooo tender and tasty at that age!
