New Jr. Herdsire on his way!

I have a new Saanen Jr. herdsire coming from the Des-Ruhigestelle herd very soon. He is due to be shipped on the 18th. His Dam is SGCH Des-Ruhigestelle Sunbreak (8*M, FS 91, '07 Top Ten Producer) and his sire is SG Des-Ruhigestelle Elros (+*B, FS 91, Elite Sire). In his three generation pedigree, this young buck has three top ten producers, two sires of National Champions, and one daughter of a National Champion. I expect this young fellow to improve both milk and type.

He will be standing at stud to approved does this fall in Fort Valley, GA for part of the season, and outside of Athens, GA for part of the season.

Stud fee will be $50 per doe covered with a live kid guarantee.

Herds on DHI test and herds that have appraised at least 3 out of the last 5 years will receive discounts. $10 discount for participation in one program, $20 discount for participation in both

Additional discounts available for does that have appraised 90 or higher and does that have milked 3000 lbs or more in 305 days. $5 discount for one or the other, $10 discount for both.

Since he has such a nice pedigree, I want this little boy proven as quickly as possible, so it is important to me to get as many daughters as possible in herds that are both on test and appraise.

My requirements for outside does is that they be generally healthy, have tested negative for CAE within 6 months, be from a Certified and Accredited Herd or have tested negative for TB and Brucellosis within the past 60 days.

Id love to use him. I dont test for TB however not something that normally effects goats and not required but I need to send off this years CAE testing and would be glad to throw the Brucellosis. I have never tested for TB want to enlighten me how you do it and where you send whatever you collect off? Id be more worried about Johnes than TB personally

I maintain Certification and Accreditation of my herd for export and out of state show purposes. Since I am maintaining this status, I want to make sure that does bred to my buck have tested negative or are from herds with the same status. TB testing is fairly easy. It is just like TB testing in people, and your vet does it, it does not have to go to a lab. You take your goat to the vet (or have the vet come to the farm) and inject the tuberculin in the skin of the underside of the tail, and then take the goat back three days later to see if there was a reaction.

TB is not currently a problem in goats in GA, but it is a problem in the upper midwest and CA. I like to maintain my Accreditation just to be on the safe side.

CF, having the full range of tests and the accreditation gives you a lot of leeway in shipping your goats to other places. For instance, by having the accredited herd, Saanangirl doesn't have to worry about goats being stuck in quarantine for months if she has a buyer that wants to ship them to the Phillipines or to Japan. (That is an issue I had to think about, many, many moons ago, when dealing with military stations.)

As soon as my regular tests come back, I am going to have mine checked for TB also. Might as well have it ALL, right? ~grinz~

He's coming today! I am looking forward to seeing him. He flies out of Portland at 12:10 pm pacific time, has a layover in Houston, and is supposed to arrive in Atlanta at 10:25 pm Eastern Time tonight. He and I are both going to have a long day! I have his pen ready for him with a nice clean shelter. I have milk replacer and alfalfa waiting for him so he won't be hungry. Hopefully I will be able to share some pictures before too long

I'm hoping the flight won't be delayed. As it is I will be up far past my usual bedtime...

He's here, and he is beautiful! He has a beautiful head and ears with perfect ear set, an extraordinarily long neck for a kid his age, very long legs, lots of width between the hocks. Over all a very nice buck kid.

Pictures will be coming within the next couple of days...

I will probably have Cam collect him in the fall. I will take orders prior to collection so I know the minimum I need to fill all the orders.

Thanks. I expect him to be an excellent herdsire, and will try to get him bred to as many does as possible, both at home and in other herds so his merit can be proved quickly.

I have more pictures, and he has a name (although ADGA hasn't processed his paperwork yet). His name is des-Ruhigestelle Sun Maker (pending).

Here he is at 10 weeks of age:

Sun Maker was my second choice, but because he was born so much earlier than my first choice was due, I bought him. I wanted a buck kid out of his dam anyway, so I figured it was best to be safe. A few weeks after I brought him home, I got an email that my first choice doe had quads: 2 bucks, 2 does. I decided to go ahead and purchase my first choice as well. He is due to fly in tomorrow night... Pictures of his dam and his sire's dam follow...

dam: SGCH des-Ruhigestelle Elendrea 9*M FS 93 EEEE, 2009 Top Ten
New Jr. Herdsire on his way! - Goats

Elendrea is probably my favorite Saanen doe in the entire country. She excels in all areas of the scorecard, appraising V or E in every structural category, and has one of the best udders I have ever seen. She is also quite productive. She has had only one lactation under 3000 lbs, and that was her yearling lactation. As a two year old she milked 3950 in 305 days, and as a 3 yo, she milked more than 4100 lbs in 305 days. She is four this year, and I expect her to continue to improve.

Sire: des-Ruhigestelle Kentucky Win *B

Kentucky Win is the son of the 2008 Saanen ADGA National Champion SGCH des-Ruhigestelle Winseeker 3*M FS 92, sired by a son of Elendrea's maternal half-sister: Elende. He has the pedigree for both milk and type.

Winseeker is pictured below.

My buck kid out of Elendrea by Kentucky Win will be standing at stud in Fort Valley, GA this fall to approved does. I will be taking orders for semen starting in August.

Well....after Elentara, her Granddam, of course! LOL

Seriously, congratulations. Lauren has some outstanding does with years of excellent breeding behind them.

We have just started to freshen our Des Ruhigestelle Eins daughters (Elentara X Briarwind Tangier) and are very pleased. They should blend very nicely with our Old-English bucks.... West Coast has some serious MOJO when it comes to goats!

I am excited. I am glad now that I went ahead and bought the Sunbreak son because I checked Lauren's website yesterday, and she has since sold Sunbreak, Nashville, and a couple of other older does to make room for the youngsters. I am very excited about picking up my Elendrea son at the airport tonight.
