Also planning on a new alpine buckling
Original plan for this year was to keep a buckling out of one of my does, to use as a backup buck as I hope to AI my does this fall.
However, I just found a herd in OH - not too far, either - that has a closed herd tested for CL, CAE, and Johne's.
They have two french alpine bucklings currently on the ground out of what they claim is their best doe. Pedigrees are nice, udder pictures look decent. He's being dam raised currently but if I pick him up this weekend it shouldn't be trouble to get him on the bottle, IMO. He was born on the 2nd, so he'd only be 4 days old.
If I get him, it will be this Sunday. I have an advising appointment at MSU on friday, rabbit show on Saturday, and maybe getting that buckling this sunday... Hectic weekend!
Looks like it will be a boy-buying year. I also still plan on buying a fullblood boer buckling out of a tested herd also here in MI. They just haven't been born yet.
