Update on Charity ...

Charity is now 9 days old. So far; so good!

The last 4 days she has only had milk from her dam; no bottle! The last 3 days she has spent from noon to dark with the herd and yesterday I saw her attempting to go toward them to socialize, which is a good sign. The last 2 nights she has spent the entire night in the barn and last night she did so without a coat. All are good indicators she is doing ok.

Still each time I feel her tummy it is full; have not seen any evidence of her having pooped and she still sleeps alone. This morning she is attempting to jump a little and continues to have good energy. Still I am concerned; yet not sure why!

Sounds like she is acting like a normal baby. Does she sleep with her momma, just not the other kids? I don't have any kids yet this year but I have 1 doe that almost always sleep by herself & the other 4 does sleep together. I just figure that's how they like it. The one that sleeps alone is my herd queen.

The 2nd time I checked last night, Charity was asleep next to a half wall and her dam was next to her (with her back to her). The other times Charity was sleeping alone in the far back room of the barn. (Other kids sleeping together.)

This afternoon I saw all the kids sleeping together in the sunshine and there, for the first time, was Charity curled up on the outside but right up next to the other kids. They woke first and she slept much longer; but I felt real good seeing that.

Watching Charity outside, she is real independent; but her dam follows her around until Charity curls up somewhere to sleep. Then her dam goes out to the pasture. I have also seen Charity follow her dam, though not as often; and she "does" nurse her dam without help now.

The 3 grown does always sleep together during cold nights.

It sounds like she is making fine progress. I'm not sure if you do prevention for Coccidiosis and worms but once they suck a teat they are contaminated with it, so need the prevention to avoid damage and diarrhea.

Thank you Laverne. Her dam is free from those..quite healthy.

She spent last night with her dam too; and in the middle fo the night I found her asleep "with" her dam. Early this morning she was running and jumping with the other kids. I am finally feeling some hope!
