Talking My Munchkin & The Bottle Baby (pics)

Here's 2 pictures I snapped of my 5 year old feeding our lil bottle baby, Sam.

My Munchkin & The Bottle Baby (pics) - Goats

My Munchkin & The Bottle Baby (pics) - Goats

My daughter has been bugging me to try milking, so this afternoon I took the buck kid away from Tootsie for about 3 hours so she could try......Talk about hilarious! Took her a lil bit to figure it out and once she did she was so proud and excited, lol Never mind the fact that more than 1/2 if the milk got on the milk stand, the ground, my daughter and she even managed to hit me a few times... lol

I honestly thought her interest in the goats would wane after the first few weeks, but my lil girl still goes directly to the barn to check on the goats and take them treats after school.....happily helps bottle feed (her favorite thing) and is even eager to help clean the barn and do early morning feedings on the weekends

Lord help me, but she asked if she could have a la mancha bottle baby for her birthday in April..... *I* wouldn't mind....just wonder what hubby would say......lol

Thank you.... I'm very proud of her.......she is the most genuinely compassionate person I have ever met, and I'm not just saying that because she's mine

Sam is such a doll.....sad that by the end of the year he'll be a stinky, blubbering mess that pees on himself..So I'll enjoy him while he's sweet, fuzzy and cuddly. lol Hopefully he'll give me some pretty babies in exchange for becoming a big smelly guy

Thank you..... I'm pleased as can be with him! His mom has an amazing udder and is a high producer and is a nice, tall, long doe. Don't know much about showing goats, am only able to spot the VERY obvious faults, but I know what *look* I like, and Sam was just what I was looking for He was 11 lbs at birth and a smidge over 27 lbs at 3 weeks old and of course he thinks he's always starving, lol

We're working on lead training him right now and he's starting to do better..... Hoping if I handle him enough he won't be a big monster who is unbearable to be around when he's older.

LOL! Good advice.. I hope to avoid being peed on, but knowing my luck, it's bound to happen at least once.

He is getting big, will weigh him again every Sunday to track his gain every week. He's on day 3 of his coccidia prevention, and I just put him on N-Timadator meat goat pellets, which he honestly seems to play with more than he actually eats them, lol

Was cautioned by a few people that bottle babies weren't worth the investment in time, and purchasing adult stock was best...

I must say I'm happy I didn't listen to those people...besides the fact that I'm lovin' this sweet boy........ I am loving the peace of mind I have. Not only do I have 2 years worth of negative CAE test on the entire herd, but I also know every detail of his care and management, so I don't have to second guess what could have been done, or how he was possibly cared for before coming here.

I've had to second guess a few things on my past goat purchases.....nothing major, but even though I researched and thought I knew what I needed, I still missed a few things and I am happy that at least with Sam there is not one single thing I second guess or worry about

On my daughters birthday wish..... I'm considering it and trying to find clean la mancha herds close to me just in case

I'm waiting on an alpine doe bottle baby.....was considering keeping a doe from Sabrina (if she has one), but if I can find a la mancha baby that fits my budget, I may not keep a doe from Sabrina so she can have her la mancha....Didn't want more than 3 does (plus my one mini girl) and I wonder what I'll do with Mancha x Alpine kids because I can't afford a Mancha buck too, especially for just one doe....

Dunno.....will have to think on it some more and then decide, lol

Oh, my, yes, she is so cute. I really love my teenage son, but I MISS my little boy! Alas, he never has had any interest in the goats. Sometimes I wonder "WHO" is his mother.....
