Brian toodle, lice ?

So, found the little buggers on a couple of my goats today, have no idea how they came about but nerveless they have them.

Some one told me to use cydectin as a pour on but I really dont have funds to go buy a bottle or I would be using it on my goats instead of quest, and I dont think that would work well

So, I do have ivormect pour on, its labeled for lice for cattle but I can remember it being said that one should never be used on goats as a pour on, so the question is which one?

DE is not working here as they have been dusted with that. Its warm but not warm enough to spray them down good. I can move them out of their environment for a few days this weekend so that the bugs can die off..

Goat lice and chicken lice are two different things right??? thats the only new things.

Do NOT use cydectin as a pour on for goats. It's dangerous.

DE does take some time to work, but it really should. Is it warm enough to shave the goats? Lice hate a nice slick goat. I think goats and chickens have different lice.

Also, consider your copper and zinc levels, they may be deficient.

Powdered sulphur and DE has worked for me - mostly the sulphur, I think. They may get some scurfiness afterwards, but the lice disappear!

I'm using something called ZipCide Dust. The folks at the feed store said that it was safe for goats but it says on the label that it's meant for beef, dairy cattle, swine and horses. It says 1% Co-Ral and the active ingredient is Coumaphos phosphorothioate. Does anyone know if this is okay to use on pregnant and lactating does? I don't like to use things that aren't specifically for goats but I couldn't find anything specifically for goats.

I hope I didn’t just hijack this thread.

The link I posted in my previous post has suggestions for various products....what to do for biting lice and what to do for blood sucking lice. Also mentions products that have been safely used on pregnant does and newborns

Thank you LoneStrChic I must have been out in the barn looking at what I use when you posted this. It was helpful though.

Permethrin and Pyrethrum are made from the Chrysanthemum flower and is safe for most all animals as far as I know. If temps would allow you to shave, I would spritz them down with a mixture of this.

Yes, chicken lice and goat lice are different, as both need a specific body temp.
