Why is her teat leaking?

We are new to goats and I need some help.

Our 2 yr old doe just kidded 4 days ago.

sometime last night her left teat started leaking, she only gave birth to 1 doe

and her udder was pretty full ... a few hrs ago when we let them out, her left teat was just streaming.

After she started streaming we promptly milked her and she stopped leaking

The baby doe favered the left teat for the first 1 1/2 days but yesterday she started milking the right teat only...

what do you guys think?

Consider milking her twice a day and then bottle feeding the baby. This way she won't be so uncomfortable...they need to be pretty full to leak. Also, I would be a little worried about dirt getting up into the udder and potentially mastitis. If you milk her, then you can spray her off with iodine/teat spray afterwards, which greatly reduces any chance of dirt up the teat while the orifices are closing.

Yep, You need to milk out the other side at least daily maybe twice a day depending on how strutted she is to keep her from getting lop sided.

A doe with just one kid will produce much more than a single kid can drink. You will need to milk her totally out on both sides, at least twice a day even if you leave the kid nursing so that she does not get mastitis (hard/lumpy udder)

Yea, you'll need to milk her, though eventually even just one kid will start to eat all the milk she makes.

I had a doe leak like that once when I weaned her kids, I milked her out daily & kept decreasing milking each day to dry her up. She never had an problems after that. She had just so much milk.
