Morse Code?

I do not know if it is just me or not but it seems that there is just one problem after another with the goats this spring. I cannot remember reading of this many last year. Now granted I have not been a member very long but I have "lurked" on alot of same and similar forums until settling just on a few and never have I read of so many problems.

Would it be a good idea and in any way advantageous in everyone's endevors to help and assit to use the "SOS" in our title posts? Could it be made to be automatic in red lettering and in caps as soon as it gets typed by the web guru or even an emergency type of smile that is always at the top of out post page? Maybe done so that all who need help and all who are reading recognize it immediantely to read first? Minutes can make a difference and if you are in a nervous state you cannot type well let alone even think of what to say and how to word it so that it gets noticed right away. I know I would shake so bad that my typing would be unrecognizable and spelling would be horrific as well as I would short the keyboard out with the tears. Or maybe someone else has a good suggestion. Just a thought.

It's kidding season, and a lot of folks are getting started with goats because of the food price issues. Lots of rookies and newbie questions, which I also went through, and I wouldn't still be in goats without Yarrow and Coso on this board!!

I don't know if there's a way to code emergency requests automatically.

I agree with Alice that there are a LOT of folks who are new to goats. And oh! how I thank God for all the folks on this board - EVERYONE, esp Yarrow and Coso, and last (but never least!) my Fairy Goatmother!

When I log on, I usually look for the emergencies first. Don't know any special way to flag it, just figure that I may know the answer to a question (or want to learn the answer).

Yep a lot of newbies with the same questions I once had and some that I have never had to ask yet. I agree that Yarrow,Coso, and Emily the Fairy Goatmother are part of the reason I am still in goats.

edited to add: Emily needs Fairy Goatmother under her Ozark Jewels name.

I am still very new too, and I would like to add that Alice and Pony have also been a big help to me!

I hope to be able to help someone else some day.

and that's one of the lovely things about this forum...Strangers coming together, becoming friends, helping one another.. sharing in the good times & the bad.

Just a few years ago it was Alice that was new to goats.. then Pony joined us in our goat craziness.. BOTH of them had lots of questions & concerns.. They questioned, they listened, they learned and NOW??? they are helping.. soon you will be able to pass their gift of helping on to the next *class* of newbies.. just keep paying it forward..

I know that I always check the threads with "Help!" in the title. Most folks who are having trouble put that in their thread titles.

However, I also agree that there are lots of newbies....and it is kidding season, and any mistakes you have made in such things as nutrition, worming cycles, minerals, etc., etc., etc., are going to come and bite you in the butt during kidding season.

And that's probably why there are lots of problems. Lots of folks got into goats buying a bred doe a few months ago, and since they *didn't* have experience with things such as BoSe, copper, worm loads, etc., they are coming into kidding season with heavily pregnant does that are not in their best shape....which, of course, leads to MORE problems.

I think that one of the first things folks should do when they get on this forum is ask the all important question:

"Which one of you experienced folks lives the closest to me, and may I have your phone number?"

Even if the closest person is 2 hours away, they are probably going to have some clue about area conditions, soil, minerals, yadda, yadda, and can be an "emergency number" if things get troublesome.

I mean, after all, whatcha gonna do if it is three in the morning, your doe is kidding, and you come on here screaming for help to get...

.... the sounds of crickets...cuz face it, most of us are sound asleep in our beds at 3 in the morning. A person could wait an hour or three for a single response.

Emergency phone number of nearest goaty person is imperative. ~nodsnodsnodsnodsnods~
