I did it!!
My husband convinced me that we could do the disbudding all on our own.
What that translated into was he would watch and offer moral support while I did the disbudding.
We bought the X30 dehorner, I watched some youtube videos on it, read up a lot and. . . . . today was the day!
And....... I DID IT!!! Got copper rings and everything!
Thanks to the awesome, stupendous, incredible Goat Forum, ya'll made me much more willing to try it!!

I didn't think so. The info on Fiascofarms and the youtube videos really helped. Our burner was brand new so it didn't take long at all to heat up and we did the 6 kids in about 25 minutes.
Also, would have been easier with a kid box like they suggest. Hubby just held them for me and it would have gone faster with the box.
Some yelled more than others, but they were all fine as soon as you let them go. Some of them just started jumping again and didn't even go to their mamas.

That's good to hear. We're hoping to get goats. Have you had to castrate any yet?

We've always used the bands on our male animals. Sheep, goats and bull calves. Seems to work well for us.

That's wonderful you did the plunge into your own disbudding. I did the same thing, reading all I could, then doing it all by myself. No way would I ask my hubby to be a part of it, that would go over like a lead balloon, lol.

Congrats!! I have no one who can do them for me so when Sabrina's babies get here, I'll have to suck it up and do it. Not looking forward to it, but hoping we can have results like you did

Good Job RoyalValley, sounds like all went well! Your hubby sounds like mine, He'll pick out animals we should get or he wants but I do all the reading up on them, shots, wormers, etc. He's not doing any of that stuff!

Gratz! Your one step ahead of me, still havent taken the plunge as far as dehorning yet, and have only wethered once. I guess my biggest fear is Pawnee had the greatest dehorn job done on her but Shaq man does his head look a mess and I am worried that is what I would end up doing to my goats...

I'm glad I did it, it wasn't as bad as I was fearing. And yes, Backfourty....JUST like my husband.
