disbudding and the buck tip

We have one of the X-50 disbudders and we have a buck tip for the bucks, but I have a question. I have a whole lot easier time getting that copper ring with the doe tip than the buck tip. I have a heck of a time getting a copper ring with the buck tip. Any suggestions?

I have the X50 and a buck tip. I used it once, I will never use it again! I disbudded one of Roseanna's bucklings with it and made a mess of his head but worse, it took him a full day to recover. Never again. Just make sure you do your bucklings within 7 days or less!

Make sure its on D for dehorn instead of S for solder. Buck tip is more metal so it takes awhile to heat up. We just use the doe tip and make a figure eight burn. Never scurs or smelly bucks

I haven't made a mess out of their heads at all and I did let it heat up quite awhile, but I have noticed I have a terrible time getting that copper ring and I can tell already I'm going to get scurs. Good thing these are all going to the freezer.
