Nigies sure are low to the ground!

What on earth do most of ya'll milk into while milking a nigerian dwarf? My FF is especially petite. At the moment I'm milking from behind into a jar. Of course I can only use one hand to milk with this way. I really really need both hands to milk with. Suggestions?

I got 8 ozs today! I think that is pretty good considering the size of the goat and the size of her udder. She freshened 2 days ago, so still producing colostrum.

I milk sitting behind my Niggies and milk into a 2 qt stainless steel bucket. If my FF are jumpy then I milk one handed - otherwise I milk with both hands (and all fingers but my pinkies). I do have one doe who's udder is in the pail when she first freshens, but she is the only that goes that low.

I thought that you were supposed to milk goats from the back when they are a small variety. Maybe that gets rid of the too short to put a bucket under issues. You can always put the pail or whatever behind a milking stand if you are using one designed specifically for them.

Or, since they are so small you could just have someone pick her up and hold her over the bucket. :-P

I sit to the side of mine facing the back end just like I do my other goats. I just use a shallower pan (2 quart sauce pan), though I've used the bigger one and had my hands almost inside the pot. You'll find what works best for you.

We milk from the side and milk into a small stainless steel dog bowl, then put that into a stainless steel covered bucket.

My milking stand is wide enough for me to sit beside the doe, facing her back end. I milk into a stainless steel bowl with two hands if she's mellow, or with one hand and the other on the bowl (ready to grab it away) if she's not. By sitting beside her I can lean into her to let her know that we're not stopping until I'm finished if she's being fidgety.

It's a process

I sit next to my NDs, on a milkcrate that is next to the milkstand, facing the rear. I use a recycled plastic Folgers coffee can to milk into. It is wide enough that I can use both hands to milk, and tall enough that I can rest my hands on the rim, keeping it steady and preventing an errant hoof from knocking it over. I like the support it gives my hands, so I don't tire easily.

This is what I've been doing. The stainless steel dog dishes seem like the perfect size.

Ah, my ND doe is pretty low. I sit by her side in a normal manner. By the time she was 3 months pregnant with quads, she was just too low for me to milk comfortably. So it was a good thing it was time to stop anyways. I used to milk into a large Adams peanut butter jar (quart size). It is 7 inches high. I like to milk two handed and there is always a lot of foam when I milk that way, so I needed more than just the quart jar. So I ordered a 4 quart bucket that is exactly 7 inches high. I will start milking next week so I will get to find out if it works! She will more than likely give me close to 3 quarts a day at peak this time.

This would work for the shorter ND's.

I use the same bucket that smwon posted.

I milk from behind (largely straddling the milk stand). If you didn't know what I was doing and happened upon me, you'd arrest me.

I have a bucket like smwon, and I also have one half that size. The 7 inch high I use for minis, and the one half that size I use for NDs.

I milk from the side.
