Hoegger Herbal wormer v. RX
I think two of my does need to be wormed, their eyelids reveal they are anemic. I plan to gather berries & have a count performed. I am using a vet that I’ve never used & she said Ivermectin is NOT safe to use during pregnancy. I think she said to use Dimethox (I think correct name). When I asked her about herbal approach she didn’t have much faith in them.
What I was thinking was to give them the RX, then begin a regiment of Hoegger’s herbal blend. I suppose before I do anything I should wait for the type & count of worms.
I realize there is threads on worming but when I do a search the returns a enormous. My biggest concern is getting them worm free then keeping it that way. I just don’t know what to think of this vet yet.
I think the biggest hurdle to having goats is the huge difference of opinions on what to do in certain situations. I’ll read one thing then read something that states exact opposite.

This vet sounds like a lunatic. . .
Ivermectin is safe, but it isn't effective in many places by itsef. Dimethoxx will do nothing for worms - it will treat cocci only. . .
Use Ivomec plus for now. . .plain ivermectin isn't going to help, really. . .
Valbazen at kidding. . .for tapes
Dimetthoxx is great for cocci, not for worms. . .she should NOT need cocci treatment as an adult.

Ivermectin is safe and effective. Parts of the south, Ivermectin is no longer effective as they seem to worm their goats constantly (warm, wet, humid, no real freeze during the winter).
Ivomec plus is for eliminating liver flukes (most use this at 1cc/100 lbs every 10 days for three doses). We don't have liver flukes up here in Idaho so never use Ivermectin +. You will need to ask a smart/good goat breeder in your area if these are a concern for you.
Dimethox is for treating/preventing coccidosis.
Definitely use a chemical wormer (not Rx) when your animals are already overburdened with worms - as evidenced by the anemia.
PS Those who use Ivermectin + use it when the doe is pregnant/dry. So safe for pregnant goats. That way they get to avoid the milk withdrawal times. Of course, if you have a goat with liver flukes, use the wormer, discard the milk, and save your goat.

I would give moxidectin since ivermectin doesn't work well in many places.
Quest horse wormer is good for a few doses, give 1 cc per 100 lbs.
It should be ok to use after the first 50 days of pregnancy.
Now, this won't get liver flukes which can also cause anemia. You can give Ivermectin plus after about 100 days in pregnancy for liver flukes.

Here is a link to the best organized, most up to date dewormer info I know. This website is owned by long term knowledgeable goat people.

Oh, and your goats will never be worm free and you don't want them that way . They will always have worms, you just want them to have a healthy amount.

A lot of people tell me to avoid moxidectin/cydectin in pregnant does. . .but some people do use it.
I'm in WV, and ivermectin alone isn't effective here.

It will IF your vet is familiar with what kind of worms goats get, the worms are shedding eggs at this time (winter is a low egg time), and if you stand on your left leg with your right arm raised. ooops. No, that last part was how to get cell phone service in the Ozarks.
Some of the worm eggs look remarkably like other eggs of other species.

This organization fecal tests for $5 a sample, which is cheaper than the vet, even with shipping!

We're in the high desert, our goats aren't on graze, so Hoegger's herbal wormer has worked extremely well and we don't have to use anything else. Our vet charges 10.00 per fecal examination.

Info about lung worms, including that sometimes the eggs don't show up.
