Might be getting some free goats!

A friend of mine at Church and I have talked about the farms we grew up on. We've swapped tales and had some laughs. He know his way around the farm and he's had goats in his childhood. A few weeks ago he asked me if I wanted some free baby goats. Ummm..YES.

Apparently the Lutheran school where their kids went was having their Annual Spring Auction. Someone donated some nice purebread baby goats. My friend wanted to bid on them because he wants the animals to go to a "good home and nnot just to anyone who thinks goatrs are a toy." He's giving them to me and doesn't want a dime for them. He said that he just wanted to buy something and get a good tax deduction. He feels that this way he can buy something sizeable, get the tax deduction and not have it 'clutter' their house. My friend hasn't had goats in years so he didn't know the breed. Just told me that 'they' said they had big floopy ears!

I think I'm going to get some Nubians!!!!!

We'll find out when he rolls up with the babies!

Don'tcha just love a surprise?!

You're braver than I. At least keep them separate until 6-8 months old and until you can do disease testing. Who knows where these goats came from, especially when they were ran through an auction...

That is nice of him, good luck with the babies. Any idea of how many? Boer goats have floppy ears too, so be prepared for that.

It's NOT a livestock auction. They were part of a school fundraiser auction, donated by a reputable breeder. They come from a tested herd and I've been invited out to see the farm, the dam and the sire. They're more papered than my Saanens!

They'll be separated for a while as they're just babies and I have older goats.

I'm OK if they're Boers. I have a pet Boer now=what's two more?! She's quite the contrast to my Saanens and Snubians! I love watching my Boer run towards me with her ears swaying and her sweet little face all happy looking.

DING DANG DARN IT!!

They're bucklings.

But they're Nubians. I'm still tempted to take one. One more goat won't hurt, will it?! LOL
