The difference minerals can make
This is our Nigerian buck. When we got him he was definitely showing signs of copper deficiency. We use Onyx cow minerals here, along with copper boluses. Well this is the difference the minerals, alone, made within 2 weeks!
This is the before photo:

And this is 2 weeks later:

Simply amazing, isn't it? Hard to believe the two photos are of the same goat.

It is amazing! And it is exactly the same goat. I sent photo's to the person we got him from because all of her goats looked similar. She was using something called Multimin? I told her the good results I had with the minerals and bolusing and that she should give them a try.
I have similar results in an Alpine buck. They were by far the worst.

This is the Alpine buck before copper bolus:

And 5 weeks after:

The amount of growth is what amazed me! He was so little and he got so big and handsome!

Great pics!
I took some pictures of my alpine doe and hope to have some nice "before & after shots".....she has fish tail, hooves aren't the best and her dark hair has copper colored tips....she's late in her pregnancy so I'm not expecting to see much results until after she's kidded and has had a chance to recover from that.
We're also copper bolusing & using the Right Now Onyx minerals the girls love them.... I wish I had some before and after shots of my mini alpine girls....they weren't in the shape my standard alpine is, but I still saw improvement after switching from the mineral block the breeder had and adding the bolus & Bo-Se...

That is crazy the difference! Now I'm not sure when people say "look for the fish tail." It doesn't look like these guys have it in the before pictures. Can anyone post a fish tail picture?

Do you sprinkle the Onyx on their feed, or leave it out free choice in a mineral feeder? My bucks never seem interested in the minerals if I put them in a feeder......I use Onyx also.

Here is a picture of my standard alpine girl and her fish tail.....the center of the tail tip starts balding and what's left looks like the tail of a fish :-)
To Birdie... I have a mineral feeder out and keep the minerals in it at all times. It's in the barn so it won't get wet, or exposed to the elements... I add to it every week or so.....

I know that minerals make a huge difference, but I'm just slack-jawed in amazement at how quickly the results show.
Thanks so much for posting!

We use the same mineral, Right now Onyx & all my goats seem to really like them so they eat them really well out of a mineral dish I have attached to the wall in the boys & girls penned areas.

Any Nutrena feed dealer should be able to get them...... my feed store didn't keep them in stock, but was able to order them for me.

WOW. I tried putting the copper rods in a sandwich, which was GOBBLED up, but looking at this I am thinking maybe bolus is the best way to go. I have Not seen these results.

I dose at 1 gram per 22 lbs. We normally bolus, however when we got our copper this last time, we only had two goats, Hershey and our buck, who needed their copper. The others had gotten what I had left the week before since their due dates are closer. So as an experiment, we tried a new way of getting the copper down them since we usually end up with at least one bolus crunched. If we get the same kind of results with the new method, I will post it. We did get the copper down without any chewing or fighting, so that was good. And considering that the gel cap disolves failry quickly and its the weight and gravity of the rods themselves that gets them to where they need to be and not the gel cap, I think the most important thing in giving copper rods is to make sure they get to the rumen without being chewed.

I bolused my mini alpines with marshmallow bits and small jam sandwiches and it worked fine....... they weren't in as bad of shape as Sabrina (standard alpine) but their coats did improve, no more copper colored hair tips and their hooves are in better shape.... changes were gradual, but 4-5 weeks after their copper laced snacks I saw noticeable improvement...

TERRIFIC!! You all notice the white ring around his eyes 2 weeks before bolusing? And the red patch on his side?
Great job Sharmon they are all stunningly beautiful!
