Guess what hubby bought me.. Pics

A pygmy buck!! Last week we were talking about trying to located a buck to breed Oreo this spring. One thing that we talked about was to get a buck verses a stud fee. I think hubby likes the goats secretly lol. Anyway we decided we had a month to decide but he told me to keep an eye out on craigslist. I still need to build a buck pen. So i was looking at young just weaned up to 6 month olds figure they would be easier to house. Anyway he came home last night with a piece of paper and gave it to me told me to look at what he found.
It was a cute 11 month old gray agouti pygmy buck with blue eyes. Do pygmys have blue eyes?? He is very cute and all but know ive got to get a pen built by Sunday.

So i should have some blue eyed babies this fall from Oreo since Oreo is blue eyes. Bad thing is since im keeping does out of each breeding he can only stay for 1 or 2 breeding seasons. Depending on what he throws as i want some other color other then black. wounder what he will throw mixed with my girls. time to go look up some gentic sites lol

Just because they are black does not mean you will have black colored kids. I bred my black, blue eyed Nigie to a black, regular eye color doe and I got one blue eyed beige kid and one regular eye colored browish kid.
I also have another black doe who had triplets one cool colored brown kid and two white with gold. Not sure how Pygmies throw color but with Nigies it is surprise everytime

If your buck has true blue eyes, those are dominate and your kids will be blue eyed. If he has blue marble eyes then you can have regular eye colored kids when bred to a regular eye colored doe. Marble eyes have flecked of brownish-gold in the blue. My buck has marble eyes, he had 7 out of 10 kids with blue eyes when bred to my regular does.
So if you breed him to Oreo those kids wil have blue eyes, if they both have marbel eyes you will still mostly likely have blue eyed marbled kids.

Your buck may have Nigie somewhere in his background.

You should pick him up a wether friend. He will cry being alone, when you sell him the wether can be with the girls until you get a new buck. Also if he is alone he will do his best to break out of whatever you put him in to get to the goats, not just to breed but also for companionship.

Ya he is great i do love him bunches as he puts up with all the ooo lets go get ........ 4 yrs ago it was rabbits know its goats. If we had room we would have pigs but since were on a half an acre we trying to find animals that will fit on here with out over doing it lol.
I dont mind getting a Grey agouti doe out of him but i like to start to get some colors like the spotted and tris and all the odd fun colors. I guess i want a confetti of color out there lol. In the future i do want a ND buck. But with his blue eyes i see the possibility of color.
As for a buddy im hopping Dolly will give me a boy i can weather for a buddy for him. If he can wait that long. Unless i see a cheap wether for sell.

I like the little black aqouti buck, he's cute. He most likely has Nigerian mixed in him somewhere because I don't believe pygmies have blue eyes but it is a Nigerian trait.

If you get another buck, especially since they are both grown & don't know each other, they will probly beat on each other pretty good so be prepared if you get another buck for his buddy.

A wether about his size would be a good choice but when you have does' in heat the buck will beat on him too most likely.
