Bottle baby questions

I wasn't having any luck finding a good quality doe in my price range so I put a reservation (and deposit) on a doeling that will hopefully be born any day now. Unfortunately, I found something out after I sent my cash to the breeder.

Apparently it's a common practice for breeders in this area to not vaccinate for CD&T (I apologize if the letters are all changed around), and this breeder had an outbreak of coccidosis last year. I plan to bring my doeling home at around a week old, and read that they shouldn't be given this vaccination until about 8 weeks old - is that correct? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to prevent this disease?

If you vaccinate a kid before eight weeks of age it won't take because their immune system is not mature. Hopefully the breeder will make sure your doeling has been given colostrum after birth. Many breeders prefer not to immunize for CD&T and we understand that stance, although we choose to do so ourselves. Don't make any abrupt feed changes with your doeling and you should be fine.

Thank you Julie! She leaves the kids with mom for 3 days before pulling them for bottle babies.

CD & T does not prevent coccidiosis. It is prevention for Clostridiums C and D as well as tetanus.

The above is the link to a thread on a good goat forum with information about the various ways to prevent and treat coccidiosis.

Edited to add the above link. Answers the main question I think.
