What is your favorite dairy goat breed?

I like all of them, really, but I'd have to say the LaManchas and Oberhaslis are my favorites, on accord of their manners and looks, LaManchas because of their stockiness and good milk output, and Oberhaslis because of their looks. It is hard to find ones that perform well, though.
Thought I'd post this to find out what everyone likes the best, though I have a feeling I already know.

The ones with four legs and an udder.:banana02:

I have Alpines, a MiniAlpine, LaManchas, MiniManchas, and a Saanen/LaMancha cross.

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

I like my pretty white Saanens... but also like their striking 'sisters' the Sables. In fact, I have occasionally thought about adding some Sables to my herd. I love their pretty faces and their ears and the milk is very tasty too!

Alpines of course Good milk production & I think they are the prettiest, most graceful looking of all the goat breeds. I hear people say they are pig headed & can be hard to work with, but every alpine I've ever encountered was super sweet.

I have a mini alpine & a standard alpine that is bred to an Oberhasli & if I ever got another breed, I would chose La Manchas..

I HATED Nubians growing up and raised Alpines and LOVED them! Then my daughter got Nubians for 4-H and they are characters...plus they cross well with my boers, or at least they will. Then this last Fall I helped a friend out by buying her son's Saanen which is a really well bred doe. I was so entranced by her personality that two months later I bought one of their other babies. Our pasture now contains:
6 boers (relatively quiet)
4 nubians(OMG loudest things on four legs)
2 Saanens(the mumblers...when they cry they keep their mouths closed, maybe a little 'maa')

Munchies & Obies! They have the best personalities! My Manchas do produce a lot more than my Obie girl - but I have to say she is the sweetest doe in a herd of incredibly sweet animals.

LaManchas! Sweet, quiet, calm, sensible, beautiful, good milk production, adorable tiny ears, hardy, good butterfat(only .5 percent less than Nubians on average), what's not to like? I used to have Nubians and they are pretty but I won't have them again. I love the look of Alpines and Obers and would probably go with one of those breeds if I were ever to add another breed. Unless of course I went with mini-manchas

Nubians. Hardy, friendly, good milkers.

Everyone has their favorite. I won't say that any one breed is the best, b/c every person has different needs and personalities that are met by different breeds.

Heck, I may even go for LaManchas some day.

But I doubt it.

You should come over to the dark side Pony. Once I spent time in the company of LaManchas, I sold off my Nubians and never looked back.

my saanens have pretty much pushed the rest out. i didn't want saanens at all when i was first getting goats! now i have 6! 2 are crossed with obie and nubian, tho. i dont' care about the airplanes ears, its the udder i am eyeing! but i do miss the higher butterfat, so i'm adding a nubian buck this spring (crossing fingers). one obie i had was quiet, the other was a squirrel, high strung. the nubs can be loud but very affectionate. and i love that creamy milk! my head knows a munchie would be good to try, but i like ears!!

Mini-alpines because of their feed efficiency to milk output. As for standards Toggenburgs are my all around favorite but Nubians have a special place in my heart because of my dear Addie who is 9 years old now

I love nubians so far. I have tried boars, lamancha and alpine and saanen I dont like them at all. But Alpine made me soo mad. They keep biting my other goats ears. No more of that. Saanen's milk is not my kids favorite. They wont even drink it. WEIRD.. So Nubians is our favorite so far.

Right now we added ND. That is my daughter's ND goats. So I am curouis about them when they have the milk come in. I like ND but wow a huge difference between handling while trying to hold them. BIG ONE AND SMALL ONE.. OHH...

I love my Saanens and my Nubians, I don't want to ever have to pick one breed. I also really want to add alpines. I just have resisited the urge for the past four years. I even have the herd picked out to buy my first doe from : ) I just really need to add a semen tank to our arrangment because since we breed for Show quality, we have 5- 8 bucks right now for the two breeds.

San Clementes - we are phasing out our nubians, lamanchas, and saneens. They are quiet, have a gentle temperment, and since they come from feral stock, they are the easist keepers. I have yet to do any vet care including deworming, in the three years we have had them. They stay nice and fat on browse alone. Also, can't beat the 7.5% butterfat content.

Funny, my favorite goat is Lamancha x Ober. She's the sweetest thing on 4 legs. I really like my LaManchas. I like the look of ears better, but my girls are sweet and quiet and sturdy and mellow. My neighbor's Nubians are nice, so I know it's theoretically possible, but my one Nubian mix is my one noisy nutcase and she's kind of soured me on them.
