Traumatic delivery. What do I do now?
Had a very traumatic delivery today. Keeping an eye on the momma. Baby seems to be okay. We had a delivered head and no feet. Lots of digging to find them. We finally delivered a very huge boy. My question is what do I need to do for her now. What do I need to watch for? I gave her some warm molasses/calcium/vitamin water. I would assume that I need to give her penicillin, but how much and for how long? any thing else? Still shaking, that was not fun.

I feel for you. Went through a few of those last season and once this season.
Antibiotics, absolutely, as this was a very invasive delivery. I use Nuflor for three days in a row. 6cc for a large goat, in divided doses, in the muscle. I use 4cc for my smaller (mini) goats. Once the injection hits, the goat will scream bloody murder, as there is a sting.
Or Baytril 100. It carries much, much less of a sting than the Nuflor. For my small (minimancha) doe, I gave 3cc for three days straight, in the muscle.
These are my suggestions, and they are not bible; they are what work for me, and have worked in the past.
Good luck, and give mama a gentle hug.

Both the above mentioned ABX are by vet prescription. If Pennicillin is what you have, use it by all means. Penn is available at most feed stores.

And maybe some Preparation H on her hoo-hoo. Sorry you all had to go through this!

I just lost a doe to a very traumatic delivery, she tried to deliver standing fell mid push and the placenta pulled off with the baby then number two was badly breach and we had to go in to get her. So sorry you are going through this. Looks like you have already been given some great advice, with my doe she lasted just over 24 hours after but obviously never recovered. She was quite and stayed away from babies, didn't move much (either just layed or just stood) she drank lots but only ate a little. She was distant in her stare, she was cuddly more so the usual. And toward the end she was cold. She did not have massive blood dripping or anything but after she passed away she had blood. I hope your doe has a speedy recovery, i just wanted you to know some warning signs to look out for.

...and a large glass of wine for yourself.
One of the most dreaded jobs for me is midwife. Best.

A dose of Banamine sure wouldn't hurt! I went through a bad delivery with my last doe to kid. She could barely stand for several hours afterword. After giving her banamine, she was able get up and move around a bit more. Agree with antibiotics as well.

It's RX so you have to get it from a vet. If you have any horse friends they might have some they can give you too. You really should try to get your hands on some or know someone close by that has some.

OMG I feel so for you and certainly understand your still shaking. I agree with getting a nice glass of wine for yourself (or better yet, have a loved one get it for you). As for your doe, you have received some very good advise. Congratulations on the baby.

You can also drench her with some beer. The darker the better (more goodies in dark beer).
We have given both banamine and beer to does who have had rough kiddings. Really helps take the edge off and also stimulates their appetite.
B-complex, given orally or subQ would also be a good idea.

Also nothing was mentioned about worming her, if you haven't wormed her yet do that right away & again 10 days later too.
Hows everyone doing? Any pictures yet?

Everything is much better now. She has pulled through fabulously. The boy was a whopping 10 pounds. He seems no worse for the wear. I ending up calling our vet and getting some ocytocin and banamine. I'm still giving her the penicillin for a few more days. Oh my goodness it is amazing what they can endure and still pull through. I think I will be much more capable next time. Learned a lot with that delivery. No pics yet.

Glad to know your girl is doing well. I'm always amazed, too, at what they can endure and survive! It's a blessing that kids are so pliable. I've really had some "pretzels" to pull out in the past!
