To take to market or sell outright
I have four wether goats and two mini-mancha does I would like to sell and I am not finding buyers for. I am even considering adopting out the two does to the right home. Just can't make up my mind. I have a sign up saying spring wethers $40 or two for $35 each and STILL no interest. I heard market prices are high for goats right now. Anyone know what they are for Texas and what is your opinion on it?

Don't think *anything* is going to move till the weather gets better. Hold them till spring, and they will sell for cabrito.

That's interesting Alice....I assume they have one here in Missouri as well....think I will look into that. Wanted to try goat meat myself. But so far only one baby and its a girl....will keep her if mom ends up a good milker ..How old would a pygmy male have to be to get some meat from him? It will cost me $45 to get butchered and processed which is fine as I don't want to do that myself yet

WOW that is high. I still am not sure we would get that much for them since they are dairy goats and not meat goats.

Have you tried Craigslist.org? Around here goats, even unpapered ones are going for a lot higher than you are asking. Could it be that your price is too low, thus putting serious buyers off? I know it would raise a red flag for me and make me wonder about a few things, but then I live in a different area.

No, it's per hundred weight.
So, 40 pounds at 212 per hundred weight. Darn, math.
$2.12 per pound times 40 pounds.
$84.08, more or less, for a kid that size
Yes, you do make more money per pound for smaller kids, same as for calves.
Cabrito kids are selling for $40 to $50 here.
Keep mini kids to about six months before butchering for home use to get meatier results. The ethnic crowd likes the regular size goats at weaning, about 3 months old.

Southern Missouri goat buyer....
Oregon County Buying Station
Route 63
Koshkonong, MO 65692
417-867-3336
The Oregon County Buying Station is the only USDA graded goat and sheep market in Missouri or Arkansas. The process is very simple, you just deliver your animals to them on the last Saturday of each month. They are then unloaded, sorted by grade and kind by a USDA grader, weighed, and then you receive the check before leaving. The prices being paid each month are posted at www.bubranch.com/Oregon_Buy_Station.html Friday prior to the sale. You will be charged a $5.00 handling fee per animal. You deliver your goats between 9 am and 6 pm.

Where in Texas are you? I've been wanting to get dairy goats for a couple of years now but didn't have the fencing. We're planning on changing some of the fencing to cattle panels once it warms up a little. Once that happens, I was planning to start looking for a couple of goats.

I'm in Jackson County, between Wharton and Victoria. Have Mini-Alpines due soon and Saanen/LaMancha/Alpine cross kids due early in March.
I will absolutely be selling buck kids, and if you want bottle kids, PLEASE come get some when they hit the ground!
Mini-Manchas due in mid March.

Not sure I want to start goat ownership with bottle babies! I've done lots of reading but never actually owned a goat. I would love to have a Mini-Mauncha or two, though.

ahahahni1, I will be looking for goats in about one month. I need to get some fence up that my pony can't mash! If you still have them then, I would be very interested in both.

There's a guy in Lampasas (tx) who sells 'goat panels' and they are awesome. I am able to let my two around on the front yard even to trim up things because they are so easy to reconfigure and move. A lot easier that trying to drill into the ground around here, that is for certain.

Oh yeah I'd be interested how they build them. Our ground is hard here most the time too. I am thinking about putting hog panels together with caribeaners like they discussed in the hog forum for the goats when I want them to tackle certain areas outside the pasture
