Goat Wrangling

Just though I would share a funny story with ya'll....I wish I had pictures but it was dark and my cell phone cam wouldn't take the picture

The other night I went up to my parent's property where I keep my goats. When I got there, my little boer doe was in the front part of our "barn yard", rather than the goat pasture directly behind it. I called my mom (who is there more during the day) to ask her if she had any idea how Lilly got there. She didn't, so I started walking the fence. While I was looking (as best as a person can look with a little keychain flashlight), the little boogar just showed me how she had escaped.

She leaped, landed about halfway up the barn roof, and gracefully walked her way to the very top. Since the barn itself is how you get from the barn yard to the goat pasture, she was able to get down into the yard from the roof. Although, I'm guessing she fell into the yard initially, since she didn't try to come back down into the yard while I was watching her, and I didn't really see a good way for her to have gotten down there easily. I had to bribe her close enough to me with some grain, so I could catch her collar and pull her down.

So, now she is confined to the goat stall until we get a chance to build another fence that will keep her off the barn. This nasty weather we're having isn't helping that effort either.

Ack! I thought larger breeds like Boer or my Saanens would be immune to building scaling. I have plenty of experience with car climbing pygmies though :-p

Well my boer doe had some growth issues before I aquired her, so she is still quite small. The person I got her from would not guess at her age but I have owned her for almost a year and a half. She's much healthier now but she hasn't grown a whole lot, and she's about the same size as your average pigmy. At this point I don't expect she will get much larger.

So far my saanen doe hasn't tried to scale the building.....but the boer hadn't tried either until recently so only time will tell about the Saanen!! Hopefully we can get the fence built before she gets any bright ideas.....LOL
