Surprise! quintuplets!~

I milked the goats at 7pm, and checked everyone over once before I returned to the house. All was quiet. Came back out at 8pm to feed the bottle kids, and there was my ND doe Panda, laying with 3 cleaned, still wet kids......! As I scooped them up to get them into the warm house (temp here in NE Texas is 27 degrees.....brr!), I found a 4th baby off in the corner squooshed inside the pallet wall.
Got them in the house, Texican my BF is toweling them dry, and headed back out to attend to the tired momma..........heard more cries coming from the barn.........broke into a run at this point! There was Panda standing over a 5th tiny-but-oh-so-loud baby! Wowee! My first quintuplets!

Will take better pictures in the next day or so......I've got an early morning trip to the airport, and it looks like I won't be getting much sleep! 3am feedings in my future.......

Surprise! quintuplets!~ - Goats

Jill,
I hated to take them away, but last year she had triplets...I let her raise them, and I still have one of her crazy wild doe kids..........I was too busy to handle them as much as they needed to stay tame. So this year I vowed to hand-raise my kids so that I could sell the kids as friendly kids. After 2 donuts and a bowl of alfalfa pellets, mom seems to be doing well.
CraterCove- they are Nigerian Dwarf goats. The kids weigh about 2 1/2 pounds, give or take an ounce or two.

Congratulations. They are really cute. Please keep a close eye on the doe. According to my vet, it's not normal for a goat to have a large litter and they lose more fluids when they do. They can become hypocalcemic. It's always a good idea to keep a bottle of injectable CMPK or Norcalciphos on hand in case you need it.

What a grand surprise! I've often heard that NDs can have litters of this size. I was stunned a couple years back when a nubian gave me quads. Went to check on her, and was tripping over babies everywhere. Good luck with your new babies. They are gorgeous.

Holding up my fingers in an X for protection. They are LOVELY, but I have a MiniMancha that is as big as a barn and not due till mid-March. I don't need a bucket o' kids.

Wonderful babies!

Pygmybabies, a doe cant usually feed that many she may can produce enough milk but she wouldnt be able to do anything but be nursed off of so its not really fair to let them do more than two in my opinion, though many have.

I can say congrats on all 5 being healthy. glad they are not all the same color
