I missed you too.
It was so cold this morning that I was afraid my dog would get her tongue stuck to the metal scrap bucket when she went to lick it out after the contents were dumped to the chickens.

~blushes~ How sweet of ya'll!
I'm sorry I have been away. We had a tragedy in the family and, well.....
I think I have things under control now, though, and will be able to come back online and talk with my fave goat gals!
I wish I could have stayed in bed this morning!
It was so cold this morning that I grabbed my clothes for the day as I came back from the bathroom, and snuggled with them under the covers for an hour. It took an entire hour before the clothes were both warm enough for me to consider coming out from under the blankets to put them on, AND I was brave enough to do so.

I like the 'send DH out instead' thing! It actually was so cold this morning that two of the chicken eggs I collected were frozen solid and cracked.

I feel ya!
My DH wondered why I was slow getting out of bed this morning.
HELLO! Can't you hear that wind howling in from the north? BRRRRRRRR

~laughs~ farmergirl, MY DH is from Colorado. HE thinks I am a wimp.
I told him that if not wanting to go out in this freezing, lazy wind (It's too lazy to go around you, it just goes straight THROUGH you) was the definition of being a wimp, that I will PROUDLY wear it on a T-shirt. Wimps-R-Us!
But yanno, *I* was the one that was out in it to milk goats. *I* was the one who was out in it disconnecting water hoses, putting the heat wraps on exposed faucets, yadda, yadda, yadda.....

Many, many moons ago (buffalo cross Great Plains), I was a child, and my Aunt had come to visit.
She turned to me and asked, "Honey, does the wind ALWAYS blow this way out here?"
I said, "No, Aunt Dee Dee. It only blows this way for about half of the year. The other half of the year it turns around and blows the other way."

Today it was so cold that I could barely walk in all my layers then I got to my car to go to work and it was so cold I could not see out of the windshield:
Or in the mirrors:
And I will use my eggs as weapons, frozen egg bombs, which I plan on lobbing at the coyotes
Currently it is -2 and with wind they say it feels like -22.

I think I have somewhat made up for my absence....by proving my loyalty to the goat forum and traipsing out in the wind and cold (It's flippin' 25 degrees out there!) to....
....take pictures of my goats and post them to the forum.
BRRRRRRR! I am now going to go treat my nose and toes for frostbite. It was NEVER this cold in Colorado!!!

You crazy Caliann see my post above your last one. Not that cold in CO, hahaha. The schools have been closed today and tomorrow due to sub zero temps.
I trotted out to the goat pen last night at -25 degrees at 1 am so the kids could nurse and then I brought them back in till 8 am to sleep inside the nice warm house. I shall repeat the process tonight, they come in at 8 pm, go out at 1 am to eat, then back inside, the back outside with mom in little dog coats at 8 am, sigh I hate the cold, but it beats being snowed in!

Thai, it didn't SEEM that cold when I was there! Really!
I mean, I was shoveling off my stairs in 14 degree weather....in short sleeves! 14 degrees wasn't THAT cold!
So why is 25, our current temp, proof that we are entering into an Ice Age?

The gate was frozen to the barnyard.....so I threw the goat and kid pellets over the fence...LOL...they were standing there looking at me like I lost my mind...went out to feed the dogs and could not get that gate open either..threw dog food over the fence, than kept yelling at one or the other to let that one eat....we will have four more days of this freezing cold...I loved last weeks temp of 77 degrees....this 9 degrees if for the birds.....I couldn't get out to the feeder to feed them !

Yikes, Granny!
I had a similar problem in the chicken coop....so I got my little kitchen blow torch that is used to make crust on creme brulee to heat the gate parts.
I have now rigged them so at least the latches CANNOT freeze shut.
I was sun bathing last week. UGH! I want to be sun bathing NOW!
